Nissan Maxima Trailer Hitch

Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2008 Nissan Maxima

Today on this 2008 Nissan Maxima, were gonna install Hidden Hitch part number 60944. This will also be comparable with the Draw Tite Hitch part number 24788.Here are a couple of measurements that will assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pinhole out to the outer most edge of the bumper is 6 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 10 inches. Now lets go ahead with the installation. The first step, were gonna access the rear trunk compartment of the vehicle. Ill remove the spare tire.

Were now gonna get underneath the vehicle and lower the exhaust. To lower the exhaust, we have three fasteners on each side thatll need to be removed to release the exhaust muffler from the exhaust hanger bracket. A special note when removing the fasteners on the passenger side: there is a brown strap that is attached with one of the fasteners; you need to make sure that this is reattached when we reinstall our exhaust hanger brackets. Now lets go ahead and remove the brackets so we can lower the exhaust and gain our access points. To gain more access above the above the exhaust to install the fasteners, what were gonna do is lower or remove the exhaust hanger bracket. But before we can do that, we need to put a safety strap across the exhaust so we can control how far the exhaust will fall. Our next step, we need to remove the two plastic tab holding the rear bumper cover in the metal support bracket.

Simply pry out on the center of the plastic tab and remove it. With that plastic tabs removed, we now need to make a hole in the frame so that we can put our fasteners in it. To do this, were going to take out the section between these two holes that are already on the frame. This will be identical on both sides. With the access hole not created on the frame, we can go ahead and take our pull wire thats supplied in our install kit, were gonna feed it into our attachment point with this center hole, feed it out our access hole then were gonna our bracket onto our pole wire and thread on our 2/16 carriage bolt.

Alright, once we have our block and bolt in the thing, we can go ahead and pull it into position. With the block and bolt in position, I can go ahead and remove my bolt leader and repeat the same process in the passenger side. Now were gonna have a support bar that will come off the hitch and go underneath this spare tire trunk pin. The forward rubber plug will get pushed in. On the rear attachment point theres a perforation, were gonna go ahead and cut that out.Now were ready to put our hitch in position. Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch in place while you install your frame fasteners.

When putting your hitch in position, be careful not to push your fasteners back into the frame. Well secure those with the conical tooth washers and the nuts. Now were ready to put the trunk strap or support brace in position.Itll sit above the hitch and go flush with the bottom of the trunk pan. Then well install our 3/8s carriage bolts down through the strap and through the hitch. Well secure those with the conical tooth washers, the teeth of the washer facing the hitch and 3/8s nuts. Now were ready to take our -inch block and carriage bolt and put them into position down through the trunk pan. But before we put them in position, well take some silicone, go around the outside edge of the block so that we seal out any dirt, moisture or debris, but especially for the exhaust gases, to keep them out of the cabin of the vehicle. Now were ready to go ahead and install our conical tooth washer and nut. Well repeat the same process installing the rear fastener conical tooth washer and nut. With all of our fasteners installed, well go ahead and tighten them down. Ok, with all our fasteners tightened down, we can go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions.Alright, with our hitch installed and tightened down, well go ahead and reinstall everything. With everything reinstalled, thatll complete the installation of our Hidden Hitch part number 60944 on our 2008 Nissan Maxima.

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Nissan Maxima

Alright, today on this 09 Nissan Maxima, we are going to install part number 24796 from Draw-Tite. This will also apply to part number 60873 from Hidden Hitch. The first step is to go ahead and remove the exhaust on both sides of the vehicle of course. That will give us more room to put the hitch up and mark our holes for drilling. So let us go ahead and spray down the bolts with your favorite penetrant. Let it sit for awhile. Then go ahead and break the bolts loose. Below the muffler is a rubber hanger. It would be a good idea to spray it down with your favorite lubricant and go ahead and pull it out backwards. Alright, we have our driver side done. Let us go over to the passenger side and repeat the same process. OK, now the heat shield is going to be in the way of holding the hitch up into place. So, we are just going to push it out, away from the trunk pan here. You just want a general curve on it. That way we can get up, in between the bottom of the trunk pan here and the side of the frame. When we are all said and done, this will actually get pushed back in place. 1:01
