Today on our 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan well be installing the Draw Tite Hitch part number 75579. This is what our hitch will look like once its installed. Next, well go ahead and give you a couple measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch such as a draw bar, a bike rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most edge of the bumper is approximately 6 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 12-1/2 inches. Now lets go ahead with the installation.
Before we can go ahead and install our hitch well first need to lower the exhaust. The easiest way to go ahead and lower our exhaust is to remove the bolts holding the hangers. Therell be one hanger just in front of the muffler and another just in front of the rear axle. So lets go ahead and remove those fasteners now. Now with those out of the way we can go ahead and lower the exhaust and it will give us access to the passengers side frame rail.
On this side well go ahead and remove two of the manufacturers bolts. These will be the rear two fasteners on the frame rail. Next well move over to the drivers side and remove the three rear fasteners on the frame rail. Hang on to these fasteners as well be reusing them to install the hitch. Now with those fasteners removed we can go ahead and put our hitch in place.
When doing this by yourself it will be easiest to put the passengers side up above the exhaust first and then raise the drivers side into position installing your fasteners finger tight. Then well move over to the passengers side and put it into position installing those two fasteners that we removed previously. Now with all our fasteners installed finger tight we can go ahead and tighten them down. With all our fasteners tightened down we can now go back and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. And there you have it our hitch is installed.
Now well go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. And with that done this will complete the installation of our Draw Tite Hitch part number 75579 on our 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan.
