Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2008 Chevrolet Express Van

Today on our 2008 Chevy Express Van, were going install our Curt hitch, part number 13040. All right, this is what our hitch will look like once its installed. Now, well go ahead and give you a couple of measurements that will assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost point of the bumper is 4. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground gives us 15-1/4 of ground clearance. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a draw bar, a bike rack or a cargo carrier.

Now, lets go ahead with the installation. First lets go ahead and identify our attachment points. Each attachment point here on the driver side is going to be repeated identically on the passenger side. We have a total of six attachment points, three on each side. Our fasteners are going to be 1/2" carriage bolts with 1-1/2 by 2 blocks, then secured with a 1/2" flange nut.

Lets go ahead and put our hardware in position. Fit our bolt and block through the access hole in the frame into each attachment point. Theres a three on the passenger side, Ill repeat the same process with the three on the driver side. All right, now with all of our hardware set up, were ready to go ahead and install the hitch. Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch in place while you install your flange nut.

Well install each of our fasteners finger tight until we get them all in place. Now with all of our fasteners in place, well go ahead and tighten them down. All right, now with all of our fasteners tightened down, well go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Each process we do here on the driver side is going to get repeated identically on the passenger side. All right, with all of our fasteners torque to specifications that will complete the install of our Curt hitch, part number 13040 on our 2008 Chevy Express van..
