Today on our 2007 Dodge Ram 2500, well be installing the Curt Hitch, part number C15607. This is what our hitch will look like once its in position. Next, well go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you with selecting accessories for you new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 3-1/2 inches and from the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 18-3/4 inches. This will assist you with selecting accessories such as a draw bar, a bike rack or a cargo carrier. Now, lets go ahead with the installation.
Before we can install our hitch, well first need to go ahead and point out our attachment points. Theres a total of three in each side, two in the bottom of the frame and one in the side flange of the frame. Next, we need to go ahead and install some hardware into the bottom attachments points in the frame. For our forward attachment, well be using the 1-1/2 x 3-inch spacer along with out half-inch carriage bolt. In order to get our spacer into the frame, we need to feed it into the end and push it into place.
You could use a stiff piece of wire, air tubing or in this case, were just going to use a magnet. Well take our half-inch pull wire provided with our install kit, feed it through the attachment point, through the spacer and out through the access hole on the side of the frame. Theres an access hole on the inside and the outside of the frame, either of these will work for installing the carriage bolt. Once we feed the pull wire through the access hole, well go ahead and thread our half-inch carriage bolt onto it, feed it into the frame and then pull it down into position. Once its in position, we can go ahead and remove the pull wire.
Next, well need to install the rear attachment for the frame. Once again, well need to drop the spacer into place to the end of the frame and then take our pull wire, feed it through the spacer and up to the forward access hole that we just used for our forward attachment. Once again, well thread on our carriage bolt and then pull it into the position. That covers the two attachments points for the frame here on the passengers side. Well go and repeat the same process on the drivers side.
Now with the four sets of half-inch carriage bolts and spacers in place, were ready to go ahead and install the hitch. Well be securing it with the half-inch flange nuts. Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch in position while you install your hardware. Now, with our hitch in position, well go ahead and install the flange nuts. With those four installed finger-tight, holding our hitch in position, we can now go ahead and install the hardware for the frame flange. This hardware will be a half-inch pole along with the half-inch flat washer that will go to through the hitch into two 1-1/2-inch x 2-inch round hole spacers. These will get sandwiched between the hitch and the frame flange. To assist us in installing these two spacers, well go ahead and use some black electrical tape to wrap them and hold them together. Then, prying between the flange and the hitch, well slide them into position. You can even go ahead and use our flat-blade screwdriver to assist. Once theyre in position, well go ahead and slide the bolt and flat washer into position, and then on the outside, up against the frame flange, well install a 1-1/2-inch x 1-1/2-inch round hole spacer and then the flange is done. Now, with the passengers side done, well go ahead and repeat the same process on the drivers side. Now, with all the attachment points in place, we can go ahead and tighten them down. Now that we have completed tightening down each attachment point, we can go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. That will complete the install of our Curt Hitch, part number C15607, on our 2007 Dodge Ram Pick-up 2500.
