Today were working on 2005 Dodge Caravan. Were going to install the Valley Hitch, part number V82770. Here are couple of measurements that will assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost point of the bumper is 3inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 12 inches. Now lets go ahead with the installation.
Our first step is to remove some fasteners. We have three fasteners here to the backside of the spring shackle on the 10mm bolts, and then weve got one 12mm bolt just forward of the spring shackle. Well remove these four fasteners and the same four fasteners on the passenger side. Ok, with our four fasteners removed on the driver side, Ill go ahead and repeat the same process on the passenger side. Make sure you hang on to your fasteners as well be reusing these to install the hitch.
With all eight of our fasteners removed, we can go ahead and put our hitch in place. Its a good time to get extra set of hands to help you put the hitch in place. After we installed the 12mm forward fastener first, well use it to pull the hitch up tight to the frame and install our rear fasteners. Once I get my fasteners installed finger tight, Ill go ahead and repeat the same process in the passenger side. Ill go ahead and run them down.
With all our fasteners tightened down on the driver side, Ill go ahead and repeat the same process in the passenger side. With all eight fasteners tightened down, well go ahead and torque the specifications as indicated in the instructions. With all our fasteners torque specifications on the driver side, Ill repeat the same process on the passenger side. Now with all my fasteners torque specifications, that completes the installation of our Valley Hitch, part number V82770 on a 2005 Dodge Caravan.
