Here are couple of measurements that will assist you with selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost point of the bumper is 5 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 13 inches.
This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a drawbar, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier. Now lets go ahead with the installation. If youre vehicles equipped to one of our remove the tied out bracket first. This application does not have any, so were going to move on to removing the fascia door. Well get a total of six attachment points, two here in the center of the vehicle into the bottom of the bumper, and then weve got two on each of the side rails.
All six attachment points will be weld nuts so Im going to go ahead and put some spray lubricant can on them first and then Im going to take a nylon tube brush, part number 814092 and clean out the threads thoroughly before I try to install my new fastener. As over time, theyre going to be dirt, rust, dust and debris build up in these threads and it will make it difficult to install if you dont clean them up thoroughly first. All right, theres a two in the bottom of the bumper, then weve also got two on the passenger side. Well lubricate with some spray from the kit and then again clean them out thoroughly with our tube brush. Once you get all your fastening points cleaned out, take one of your new bolts and go ahead and thread it in to make sure theyll go in nice and smoothly.
Theres one, Ill go ahead and repeat the same process for all six fasteners. Now that I know all my fastening points are cleaned out, my hardware will thread in nicely. Its a good time to get an extra set of hands that will put the hitch in place. Were going to use the same 12mm bolt and conical tooth washers with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch. Youll want to install your fasteners finger tight until you get them all in place.
All right, theres a two on the passenger side, side frame rail, and Ill go ahead and do the two on the driver side frame rail, now go ahead and do the two on the driver side frame rail and then the two in the bumper. Now weve got all our fasteners in place, we can go ahead and tie them down. Theres a tube fasteners on the driver side frame rail, Ill repeat the same process for the two fasteners on the passenger side. All right, with all four of our frame rail fasteners tightened down, we can go ahead and tighten down the two bumper fasteners. With all six of our fasteners tightened down, we can now go ahead and torque the specifications as indicated in the instructions. With our hitch installed and tightened down the specifications, we can go ahead and reinstall the fascia door. And that completes the install of our Draw-Tite hitch, part number 36408 on a 2005 Chevy Equinox.
