Today on our 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan we're going to install the Hidden Hitch, part number 87717. Before begin our installation, here are a couple of measurements that will assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to outer most edge of the bumper is 3-1/2 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 12-3/4 inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a draw bar, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier. Now let's go ahead with the installation.
Our first step will be removing the rear most bumper bracket frame fastener. After we have these removed we're now ready to go ahead and install the middle and forward hardware for our forward and middle attachments points. The easiest way to get this hardware into position is by using the pull wire provided with our install kit going through the attachment point and out the end of the bumper. There is a plastic flap that will need to be pushed out of the way in order to get the pull wire through and then the hardware back up into the frame. As you're putting the hardware into the frame, slide the block in past the plastic flap and then push the bOlt through.
You can then go ahead and pull it into position. Now we've got the forward attachment point here on the driver's side done and we'll repeat the same process for the other three attachment points that need the hardware put into the frame. Now with all our hardware in the frame, it's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch in place as you install your fastener. I recommend to install them finger tight until you have them all in place. Alright, with all our fasteners in place we'll go ahead and tighten them down.
With all six fasteners tightened down, we'll go ahead and torque the specifications as indicated in the instructions. And that will complete our install of the Hidden Hitch, part number 87717 on our 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan.
