Chevrolet Silverado Trailer Hitch

Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado

Alright, today on this 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, were going to install part number 41944 from Draw-Tite. Alright, this is what the hitch looks like once installed on the vehicle. Next, well go ahead and give you some measurements that will help you out in selecting some accessories such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground is going to be 22 inches and from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper is going to be 2-1/2 inches. Now, well go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. Our first step is to go ahead and remove the bolts that are existing at the bottom of the frame and the very end of the frame rail.

Then our next step is to go ahead and lift the hitch in position and use new bolts to install the hitch with. Well be using a new 14-mm bolt, lock washer and a block. You definitely want to have an extra set of hands to help hold up the hitch while you install the hardware. Alright, next well go ahead and remove the two 12-mm side nuts and bolt plates at the end of the frame. These will be reinstalled later.

With the bolt plate removed, now I need to loosen up two bolts for the bumper bracket that go out to the bumper. That way you can space the bracket out a little bit so we can install our attachment bar. Well slip the attachment bar between the bumper bracket and the frame and reinstall the original hardware and our new hardware at the bottom going towards the hitch. Okay, the bolt will get the conical toothed washer with the teeth facing the hitch and on the other side well get a flat washer, a lock washer and a nut. Our drivers side is done, lets go ahead and repeat the same process over on the passengers side.

Alright, now well go to the fasteners going up toward the front. Therell be an existing hole so well use the 14-mm bolt, the 3-inch long by 3/8 spacer block, running from the top down to the frame and on the bottom well get the smaller, thinner 3-inch block and then the flange nut on the bottom. Okay, now with all our hardware installed, well go ahead and tighten the bolts down and then torque the bolts down as specified in the instructions. Alright, with that, thatll finish it for our install of part number 41944 on our 2004 Chevrolet Silverado.
