Today on our 2012 Ford Edge, we'll be test fitting the Thule T2 Platform Style 2 Bike Carrier for 2-inch hitches, part number TH916XTR. Now to begin our test fit, we'll simply slide the bike rack shank into the hitch, line up the hitch pin hole, and install and tighten down our anti-rattle bolt. With our bolt tight, we'll put the key lock on the other side, securing our bike rack to the vehicle. At this point, we can give you a few measurements. Our ground clearance to the bike rack is 10 inches and from the closest point of the bike rack platform from the back of the vehicle in the stored position is 1 inch. We'll now go ahead and pull the switch to unfold the platform.
With the platform down, we can open our cargo door. And as you can see, we can gain full access opening the door completely with this bike rack. We're now almost ready to load our bike. We'll need only to make sure that our front wheel clamp is fully extended out. We'll also make sure that the real wheel strap is undone and out of the way.
We can place the bike into the bike rack and bring our front wheel clamp up, clamping the wheel just in front of the front brake caliper. We'll move back to the rear wheel where we'll put the strap through and secure it on the other side. One more great feature of the Thule T2 is its ability for the platform to tilt down with the bike on it. This will allow for cargo access. We'll pull the pin here at the bottom of the bike rack platform where we can then pull the switch, allowing the platform to tilt down.
We can then open our cargo door. Please note that due to bike configurations, in not all circumstances will this be possible. The door may hit the bike handle bars or the pedals. And there you have it, our bike is loaded and we're ready to head on down the road. And this completes the test fit of the Thule T2 Platform Style 2 Bike Carrier for 2-inch hitches, part number 916XTR on our 2012 Ford Edge..
