Alright today on this 2011 Subaru Forester, were going to do a test fit of part number th970xt from Thule. The Helium Aluminum 2 Bike Carrier. Couple notes about this carrier is that it will work on 1-1/4 receiver hitches both class one and class two. It will also work on a class three receiver hitch as we are going to use here, and the bike rack does come with a bushing so that you can do that. Okay well start off by installing the bike rack into the hitch; we will line up the pin hitch holes and put in the key into the hitch and into the bike rack. We will turn the key 90 degrees and then we can tighten up the bike rack with the anti-rattle knob.
Once the bicycle rack is secure, we can take the key and lock the knob so you cant undo the anti-rattle device. Next well give you some measurements that will give you an idea of clearance between the bicycle rack and the vehicle, and the bicycle rack and the ground. At its closest point to the bumper and the bike rack were looking at 5, and were looking at 13 of ground clearance at the very bottom. Next well go ahead and pull back on the switch at the bottom of the rack. We can tilt the rack away and check for access to the back of the vehicle.
You definitely want to do this without the bikes on the rack. Now lets go ahead and unfold the arms and load up a bike. And make sure the cradle is loose before you go in to load up the bike. Okay we will put the bike on the cradles, and well take the anti-sway portion and push down to the seat tube, then we will go ahead and secure the straps. A few easy steps and the bike is already loaded up.
And with that that will finish up our quick test fit of part number th970xt, the Thule Helium Aluminum 2 Bike Carrier on our 2011 Subaru Forester. .
