Today on our 2012 Chevrolet Colorado we'll be test fitting the Thule Apex Swing 4 Bike Carrier, part number TH9027. Now to begin our test fit we'll simply slide the bike rack shank into the hitch, we'll slide our integrated locking hitch pin over and as we slide the shank into the hitch the pin will latch into place in the hitch pin hole. After giving it a slight tug we'll tighten down our anti-rattle knob securing the bike rack it to the vehicle. And now we can go ahead and give you a few measurements. Our ground clearance at the bike rack is 17-1/2 inches and from the anti-rattle knob to the bumper is 3-1/2 inches. We'll now go ahead and pull the hitch switch at the top of the bike rack to bring out our dual arms.
We can then undo the straps and make sure they're out of the way where we'll place the bike into the cradles and bring the straps around securing it to the bike rack. A great feature about the Apex Swing is its ability to swing out of the way to allow for cargo access. Now you can do this with a bike loaded or unloaded. We'll go ahead and demonstrate that now. All I'll need to do is undo the mast from the base of the bike rack using this wing nut.
With it undone we'll pull the pin which will allow the bike rack to begin swinging out. We'll also need to pull the pin at the joint to allow it to swing completely out. With it completely out we'll replace the pin at the joint to secure it in place. We can then open our tailgate. And as you can see, we can gain full access with no interference to our cargo area.
And with our bike loaded up we're ready to hit the road. And that completes our test fit of part number TH9027 the Thule Apex Swing on our 2012 Chevrolet Colorado.
