Toyota Highlander Roof Rack

Installation of a Rhino-Rack SXBS Roof Rack on a 2010 Toyota Highlander

Today we have a 2010 Toyota Highlander, and we will be testing a Rhino-Rack Roof Rack system part number sxbs8. This kit has black crossbars, but it is also available with silver crossbars as part number sxbs8-silv. We already have the crossbar assemblies put together so now were ready to mount them up on the vehicle. We need to check for two things when we put the crossbar up. First we need to check that the bar is overhanging evenly on both sides of the vehicle, and we also need to make sure it is running perpendicular to our side rails. To do this we will find a fixed point on the side rail on both sides of the vehicle, and measure to the edge of the clamp system.

We will make sure that measurement is the same and then we will note that our crossbar assembly is perpendicular to our side rails. Once we have made sure that the bar is in the proper position we can begin tightening it down. Well move back and forth from the drivers side to the passengers side and tighten down the system evenly. With the front crossbar assembly tightened down were ready to move to the rear. Again we will make sure that the crossbar over hangs evenly on both the drivers side and the passengers side, but we need to make sure that the rear crossbar runs parallel to the front.

To do this we will measure from the center of the front bar to the center of the rear bar on both sides of the vehicle. When we make the measurement the same on both sides we will know that the rear bar runs parallel to the front. Now that we have the rear crossbar assembly in position, well tighten it down in the same manner that we tightened the front. With both of our crossbar assemblies tightened down, were ready to install our locking end caps. And that will finish the installation of our roof rack.

Now we will give you a quick measurement to see how much height we have added to the vehicle. From the top of the side rail to the top of our new crossbar assembly weve added about 2 inches of height, and that does it for our Rhino-Rack, roof rack test fit on our 2010 Toyota Highlander. .
