Today on the 2005 GMC Sierra 1550 series, were going to be installing the AFE Intake Kit product number AFE51-10092. The kit includes the replacement air filter, the new intake tube, an intake adapter and two different couplers, hose clamps, the trim seal, and then the new intake housing. Once we've ensured all that's there, we can go ahead and start with our installation. The first thing we want to do before we start moving each stock intake system is to go ahead and remove the negative terminal from the battery. Well reinstall this once the new intake is in, that will allow the system to reset itself around the new intake system. Ok, moving on to the factory air intake, were going to first disconnect the mass air censor. There is actually a clip that's on here that we need to remove that first.
And then well go ahead and press the black button here at the top and separate the two. Next, go ahead and remove the screws for the intake cover. Ok, next were going to go ahead and loosen up the two hose clamps, one here going into the filter box and then were going into the intake manifold.Ok, with the clamps removed, we can go ahead and start removing the stock intake and it will separate the other one from the intake top. There's also a push rivet that's holding this into position onto this hose, we do need to remove those too as well. And then we could just remove our stock sections in two pieces here.
Go ahead and take the stock air box and go ahead and remove that next. Next, we'll go ahead and take it and remove the 10 millimeter bolts that are securing the air box base to the chassis. We are going to save these bolts and reuse them when we install our new system. We'll next move on to a little bit of pre-installation for our new intake system. We're going to first take the air filter adapter and we're going to mount it onto our new housing body and we want the larger side to go towards the inside of the box and the smaller side will protrude through this larger hole and then were just going to take the provided button head screws along with the flat washer and go ahead and install it.Next were going to move back to the stock intake lid and we need to remove the MAF censor, which is this piece here, this is still clamped on, and then were just going to reinstall it onto our new housing.
We just want to make sure we do remove the coupler that's on our existing censor. We're going to next take the reducer adapter that comes with the kit, take the number 72 clamp, put it over the larger side, ready to slide that on. Go ahead and take number 64 clamp, set it over, slide our censor back on and into the coupling. Ok and then we just want to go ahead and tighten down our hose clamps. We'll then next go ahead and take the rubber trim seal and go ahead and install it onto the outer edge of the housing.
Let's go ahead and trim off the excess. And then with that trim well just go ahead and now move on to installing the housing. Well just set our new housing in over the existing holes and well be using the same hardware that we took out. Now it's time to go ahead and put the intake tube into place. Now in the throttle body, were going to be using the straight coupler and the number 64 clamps and on the other end well be using this hump coupler with the number 60 clamps. We're going to install our tube into the housing first because it has a little more give to it and then come back over to the throttle body and insert it and if youre having trouble getting it in with the hose clamp on, go ahead and take that off. Get your tubing in and then come back and put your clamp on. Now that we've got the tube on and all our clamps in place and where we want it, we can go ahead and tighten all our clamps down. And then finally, the last thing weve got to do is go ahead and put our new air filter in. That's just going to slide over the coupling and well use the last clamp and go ahead and tighten that down. With the filter in place, we just want to make sure we plug our censor back in and go back over and reconnect the negative terminal of our battery and our installation is complete of the AFE Air Intake Kit product number AFE51-10092.
