Today on our 2012 Subaru Impreza, we'll be installing the Glacier Tire Chains, part number PW1038. Now, our tire size on this Impreza is a 205-50 R17. These tire chains are perfect for the occasional use. They will feature a rugged steel wiring covered with case-hardened steel rollers. The spring rollers are wrapped around sturdy wire across cables and they're designed for passenger vehicles with limited wheel well clearance. They work on either front or rear wheel drive vehicles. Note that this is a full-time, all-wheel-drive vehicle so chains should go on all four tires.
Now with this installation, we'll also be using the rubber adjuster, part number PW100. Now to install the glacier tire chains, we'll set it out on the floor, making sure that the side of the chains that say tire side faces up. We'll then back our vehicle over the chains 'til we reach about the middle of the chain. We'll then pull our chains over around our tire and make our connections. We'll need to do this on the inside of the tire and then we'll do it again on the outside of the tire.
Now with our chains in place, we'll now take our rubber adjuster and working in a star pattern around the glacier chains, making sure that the hook opening is facing outward. Now, you'll notice that the chains do come over to the wheel on these low profile tires. We make sure that the opening for the adjusters is facing out to try to protect the wheel a little further. We'll drive back and forth a little bit to get the glacier chain centered with our wheel. And just like that, we're ready to head out in the snow and ice.
And that completes our test fit of the part number PW1038, the Pewag Glacier Tire Chains on our 2012 Subaru Impreza.
