Today on this 2009 dodge 1550, were going to install a Deralle performance kit. This is an engine oil cooler kit, part number d15551. Were going to take our inch NTP by inch far Inaudible 00:00:14 fittings, apply some thread tape, lets go ahead and do that that now. Quick tech tip when putting on your thread tape is to make sure youre going with the thread so when youre installing it, it will help seal up and lock in the thread tape and install them on both the filter mount and spin on adapter. That completes our first one, were going to go and repeat the same process for the other 3. Our next step is going to be accessing the engine compartment and were going to remove a couple of trim panels so we can remove the grill to get access to mount our new oil cooler.
Im going to remover these upper and lower plastic trim panels so that I can gain access to the mounting points to remove the grill. 6 of these push pins are fastening tabs, we can take the trim panel off and set it aside for installation later. Youll be able to see here, you end up with 4 mounting points that well end up removing to take off the front grill. Now lets go underneath and remove the same panel so we can access the fasteners underneath the grill. Now we can go ahead and remove the 4 fasteners on top to remove our grill.
Alright with our grill off we can set it aside for installation later. With our grill off, well now have access to installing our new oil cooler but before we do that, Im going to get back under the vehicle, were going to remove the old oil filter and select and install our spin on adaptor. Before we can select our adaptor and install our new oil filter adaptor fitting, weve got to remove the old oil filter. Ok next what were going to want to do is take a clean rag and wipe off the surface where our old oil filter was. With our spin on adaptor, what were going to do first is see if it mounts directly where our old oil filter was.
And as you can see its a really good fit. If the housing was bigger, theres an adaptor we would add to our spin on filter adaptor and this application would meet perfectly with the old filter housing. Lets go ahead and get our spin on adaptor setup and ready. There are 5 supplied nuts to add to the filter adaptor, we need to take each one of these, hand thread it onto the old filter housing, to see which one its going to fit best. Lets go ahead and do that now.
This option threads on perfectly, this is going to be the nut were going to want to use to add to our new spin on adaptor. Taking the nut that we just checked with the old filter housing, were going to go ahead and install it with our new spin on adaptor.So, we only install one way, still need to put the snap ring in to hold in the nut.Were going to check and make sure that snap ring goes down in the grooves for each point, just like that so that it locks our nut in securely. Now we need to go ahead and install the seal, when installing the seal, its best to take a little of your clean oil and put it on the seal and then put it into your adaptor. With our new seal installed we can go ahead and install it on the vehicle. The next step is going to be taking our new oil filter mount, finding a location to mount it, marking our holes and drilling it out. As you can see here were going to mount ours on the frame. With our holes drilled out we can go ahead and install our new filter mount. Were just using the 3 screws that are provided with our install kit. Go ahead and repeat tightening for all 3 screws. Im just going to go ahead and tighten these down until theres a cure. Next we need to go ahead and install our oil cooler, for the rodding of my hoses, this is the ideal location. How well do this is take our mounting rods, run them through the oil cooler, through the AC condenser and use the clips on the backside to attach them. So before I start mounting Im going to go ahead and take the 2 fasteners out of the AC condenser so Im going to be able to get behind it to put on my mounting clips. Now in order to get to a bracket thats holding our AC lines here for the condenser, were going to need to remove the overflow tank. We just take it off and theres 2 passing points here and here and then a couple slide points here and we take lose the bracket thats holding our AC lines. Setting that aside you can see where the mount is holding the screw for the AC line bracket. With that out, you can see we now have a little mobility here with the AC condenser. Now we can go ahead and mount our new oil cooler, push our mounting rod straight through the cooler, then well take the 1 by 1 inch foam pads, peel off the adhesive, slip it on the backside of our cooler, we can then put it through the AC condenser and mount it up. Our rods through the backside of the AC condenser now go ahead and install my holding clip. Ok with my mount in place, I can just go ahead and cut off the excess from the rod and repeat the same process for the other 3. With all 4 of my fastening rods installed, we can go ahead and reinstall the AC condenser. With all of our hard parts mounted, we need to go ahead and start attaching our hoses. The hose were going to attach first will go from the filter mount to the cooler. Its a good idea to put just a little bit of oil on the end of the hose, give it a little bit of lubrication, slide it right down to the nut of our fitting and tighten down with our clamp. Now I can measure for length by routing it over to the cooler, well go ahead and cut it off right here. Just going to use a pair of thin snips to cut the hose so I can make a smooth clean cut. Before I put it onto the cooler, Im going to go ahead and slide on 2 clamps, one for the filter mount and the other for the cooler. With our hose on, we can go ahead and tighten our clamps down. While Im up here working on the cooler, Im going to go ahead and out the other side of the hose on also. Again while Im here, Im going to go ahead and put my warm clamp on and tighten it down. Now well take the other end of our hose and were going to route it to our spin on filter adapter. Now my length is going to be about here, so Im going to go ahead and cut it off now. Go ahead and take my clamp, flip it onto the hose. The hose were routing now out of our cooler will go to the inlet side of our spin on adapter. With the hose on to the inlet side of the spin on adaptor, Im going to go ahead and tighten it down. The last hose that we need to connect and run is going to go from the outlet to the spin on adaptor to the inlet of our filter mount. Were on the outlet of our spin on adaptor and Im going to go ahead and tighten my clamp down. With my clamp tightened down, I can go ahead and route my hose up to the filter mount. The thing to keep in mind when routing your hoses, stay away from moving components and tinge points or kinking in the line to where its bent so much where the oil wont be able to flow through it. You can see Im making nice big looping turns whenever I have to. As a tech tip you can go ahead and use black zip ties to secure your hoses. Go ahead and line up both clamps for the filter mount and tighten them down. With the filter mount hoses tightened down, we can go ahead and install the threaded filter nipple. This is what well thread our new oil filter onto. Were going to send that in hand tied, tightly as possible. Now we can go ahead and install our new oil filter. We can go ahead and put everything back together and test for leaks. That completes the installation of our new Deralle oil filter kit part number 15551.
