Today on our 2007 Chevy Express Van, were going to install the Deezee Running Boards, part number DZ1030. Our first step is to take the full length of the bright thread and install a foam backing to the upper lip. This lip will be coming in contact with the painted surface on the vehicle. Well go ahead and take our foam padding supplied with our install kit and start on one edge, peeling away the protective cover and working it all the way to the other end. Once we get to the end, lets go ahead and take a razor blade or utility knife, or even a pair of scissors at work and cut off the excess. Now on either end, were going to go ahead and take the mud flap and attach it to the bright thread using the provided hardware.
Weve got a nut, bolt, and flat washer. There will be two attachment points for each mud flap, one mud flap on each end. Once we have our hardware installed, we can go ahead and tighten it down. As we tighten it down, we want to make sure that the mud flap is even with the front face of the bright thread. That completes the attachment of the rear mud flap to the bright thread.
Now, well go ahead and repeat the same process for the front mud flap. Now, weve got both mud flaps installed, we need to go ahead and put the bright thread in place. To do this, well be lining up the back edge of the thread with the back edge of the body lip. Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold in place and then use a pair of clamps or vice grips to secure it because after that well be drilling some holes to install fasteners. We have a total of five attachment points that will hold the bright thread to the body lip.
Well add one on each end and three to the middle. To locate these attachment points, I'm going to use a tape measure and mark them out. Now with our holes marked out, we can go ahead and take 1/4-inch bit drill through the back edge of the bright thread to the back edge of the body seam. At each one of our attachment points, well then take one of the supplied bolts and then install the flat washer and nut. Well repeat the same process for the remaining four attachment points.
Now, weve got the bright thread on our running board attached to the body lip. We need to level out the running board and attach the mud flap to the inner fender well. To do this, its easiest to go ahead and remove the rear tire. So next were going to go ahead and remove the rear tire and then set up to drill our holes for the mud flap to the inner fender well. Now with the wheel off, we can gain easier access to the inner fender well. With our level sitting on the running board, well go ahead and pull it down into position, then I'm going to use a clamp or vice grips to hold it in place. Now with the mud flap secured, were going to go ahead and make three holes to secure it to the inner fender well. Ill use a tape measure to try and center out my holes as much as possible. Its the same in the flat part of the inner fender well. Once that we have our holes marked out, we can go ahead and use a 3/16 bit to drill pilot holes for our screws. Now that Ive got my holes drilled out, I can go ahead and use the hex-sided screw provided in our install kit to secure the mud flap to the inner fender well. Now, weve complete installing the fasteners on the drivers rear mud flap, I'm going to go ahead and reinstall the wheel and repeat the same process on the front drivers side mud flap. Now, were going to get back underneath and install the angle brackets and L brackets to support the running board or bright thread. So our first step is going to be to measure them out. Were going to make three marks from the front edge. These three marks will indicate the location for each of the angle brackets. Now, before I can install my front angle and L bracket, I need to relocate the wiring harness until were complete. To do that, I'm going to go ahead and use my trim tool, but a flat-bladed screwdriver will work also, to get underneath the wiring harness attachment and just pry it away from the frame. Well just relocate that out of our way for the time being. Now, before I go ahead and try to put my angle brackets in place, I'm going to take another measurement to make another mark. This will be for the depth of where our angle bracket is going to sit on the bright thread. The frame size and distance from your running board can depend on your particular application, but it will be necessary that we can get at least two attachment points into the bright thread. So for this application, I'm going to make a mark here at the end of where my angle bracket is located which is 1-1/4 inches from the end of the running board or bright thread. Lets go ahead and do that now for all three locations. Alright, now that we have our position and depth mark for our angle bracket, I'm going to use a C clamp to secure it in place so that we can use the holes that are pre-drilled into the angle bracket as a template to drill up through the bright thread. Now, from the top of the bright thread coming down, well be using the 1-inch carriage head bolt then underneath well add a flat washer and then a nut. And we can go ahead and tighten them down. Now, before I move my clamp, Ill just take a marker and mark the spot well need to drill once we move the clamp out of the way. Now, weve got our angle bracket attached to the bright thread. We need to go ahead and secure the angle bracket with our L bracket to the frame. Before I make my marks in the frame using the L bracket as a template, I'm going to use the L bracket to mark underneath the angle bracket where our holes are going to line up. Next, before we drill out our holes, well go ahead and take our level and put it on top of our bright thread and make sure that were level before we drill out the L bracket holes to the frame. Were utilizing a tie-down strap I can pull from the bright thread into position. Were going to hold it for me until we can secure it. Now, we can go ahead and drill out the L bracket frame holes. For applications where you have a C channel frame and the back side is open, you can use the supplied hex bolts. This application, however, has a box frame, but we cannot access the back side so well be using a self-threading X screw. Now with my two frame fasteners in place, we can go ahead and drill the holes from the L bracket through the angle bracket. Using the holes on the top of the L bracket as a template, we can go straight down through our angle bracket. I recommend you take a clamp or vice grips to hold the two together as you go down through your angle bracket. Now that we have our holes drilled out, well go ahead and install the hex bolt. Underneath, well add a flat washer and nut. Once we have the bolt in place, well go ahead and tighten them down and we can remove our clamp and our strap and double check the bright thread for level. Alright, now that weve got our first brace in place, well go ahead and repeat the same process for the center and rear brace. Now that we have all three support brackets in place, well go ahead and repeat the same process to install in the passengers side. Now with both sides complete, that will complete our install of the Deezee Bright Thread Aluminum Running Boards, part number DZ1030, on our 2007 Chevy Express Van.
