Today on our 2007 GMC Yukon well be installing the Tekonsha Brake Controller part number 90885. Keep in mind this setup is for a vehicle equipped with the manufacturers 7-pole. First, well go ahead and identify the manufacturers wiring that well be connecting to. As you can see here there is a red wire with a black tracer which would be the manufacturers power wire, a light blue wire with a white tracer which would be the brake switch signal circuit, a dark blue wire which will be the power feed to the 7-pole brakes and then a white wire for ground. Lets go ahead and pull them free from the manufacturers harness now. Now, we can go ahead and mount the brake control bracket.
Using a couple of self-tapping screws, well simply attach the bracket to the bottom of the dash. Next, we can go ahead and start connecting the manufacturers wiring with the pigtail that comes with our brake controller. I'm going to go ahead and remove some of the length from both sides of the wires as we wont need this much to make our connection and routing. Next, well go ahead and strip back all eight wires. Now were ready to start making our connections.
Well use the yellow and blue butt connectors provided with our install kit. First, Ill connect to the pigtail side and then well make our connection with the manufacturers side. For the pigtail side the black wire will be our power wire. It will connect to the red wire with the black tracer on the manufacturers side. The red wire from our pigtail will connect to the blue wire with the white tracer on the manufacturers side.
The dark blue wires will match up from both the pigtail to the manufacturers side and likewise with both white wires which are both ground wires. Now, with all those connections made Ill go ahead and take some black electrical tape and wrap up the wires, clean up our install look and protect the connection points. Next, well go ahead and mount our brake controller. Well use the 2 screws provided with our install kit to secure it to the bracket. Now, with that done we can go ahead and route the wiring over to the brake controller and make the connection in the back.
Then Ill simply take a couple of black zip ties and secure the wiring up underneath the dash. With that completed well now move under the hood. Well need to remove the fuse box cover to make a couple connections. Well be making a connection with the red wire taped to the manufacturers main wiring harness down below the brake master cylinder. So carefully, well go ahead and pull it free from the wiring harness and cut the tape. Now, well go ahead and route it up to the fuse box. Here are our connection points at the fuse box. Well simply go ahead and move the gray handle up so itll make it easier to make our connections points and tighten them down. Now, as we route the power wire up to the fuse box youll see it has a pre-test ring terminal. Well only match up with the smaller one on our fuse box. Next, well go ahead and cut away the second power wire. This is located between the fuse box and the fender well on the drivers side. Well simply cut it away and go ahead and route it over to the terminal. It will go to the larger terminal here on the fuse box. Now, lets go ahead and make our connections and tighten them down. With that down Ill go ahead and take a couple of black zip ties and secure my wiring and reinstall the fuse box cover. With that completed this will complete our install of our Tekonsha brake controller part number 90885 on our 2007 GMC Yukon.
