Installation of a Base Plate Wiring Harness on a 2012 Jeep Liberty

Today on this 2012 Jeep Liberty were going to install part number 38955. Now first up is to go ahead and start running a wire from the front of the vehicle to the back. It looks like in this case were going to run it through the engine compartment before we get too far along well take a moment and ground our white wire with the ring terminal. Well use number 14 self-tapping screw to attach it to the frame. Then well go ahead and continue on over through the engine compartment and to the grommet that will lead us into the cabin. This is the grommet were going to use.

Well go ahead and pull it out and well go ahead and put a slit in it. Then well go ahead and run our wires through into the cabin and then re-install the grommet. Now well pull out our wires from behind the dash and well continue on running these wires to the back tucking in underneath the plastic out on the trim panel at the bottom. Working our way all the way back to the tail light. Next well go ahead and remove the tail light to get access to the grommet.

Once again well loosen the grommet up, put a slit in it, and run our wires through. Now well run the wire with the yellow and brown through to the grommet to the outside. Well go ahead and cut our wire to length. Then we can go ahead and add our diode. Well test the factory wires first.

Well be looking for our running light circuit and then well go ahead and look for our brake signal circuit. Testing our wires it looks like a white wire with a light green strip is our running light circuit. Now we also know theres another wire of the same color, but does not light up so make sure we have the right one. Well cut that wire in half and go ahead and add our terminals to each end of the wire and then we can go ahead and add our diode. Now the end of the diode with the single tab will always go towards the tail light.

Then our input from the vehicle will go on one of the two tabs on the other side. It doesnt matter which tab is used. Then the third tab well get our brown wire from our new wiring harness that were installing. It looks like the brakes are going to be a dark green wire with white stripe. Well go ahead and add the diode in in the same fashion as we did before. For our bred like diode well hook up the other wire to that. Thatll serve for our turn signal and our brake function. Were done on drivers side. We can go ahead and re-install the tail light and well go ahead and route the other wire over to the passenger side and repeat the same process. Well move the threshold and guide a green wire and brown wire through. Then well loosen up the side panel on the passenger side. Well then remove the passenger side tail light and grommet. Using a piece of air tube well pull our new harness through. Well make our slice in the grommet and then pull our new harness through it and re0-install the grommet. Now we can test for our functions and hook up the diodes, now on the passenger side it looks like white with purple strip is our running light circuit so well add our diode to that wire. Then add the brown wire from our new wire harness. Now well go ahead and look for our brake signal on the passenger side. Again on the passenger side it looks like its going to be a dark green wire with a white strip for the brake signal. Once again theres two of them so we need to double check our wire make sure we have the right one to tap into it. Then for this well add our green wire. Now that all wiring connections are made up we can go ahead and re-install all the interior trim components. There you have it for part number 38955 on our 2012 Jeep Liberty.
