Installation of a AFE Direct Fit Cold Air Intake System on a 2002 Ford F-350 Super Duty

Today on this 2002 Ford F-350 Super Duty, were going to install the AFE Direct Fit Cold Air system part number AFE51-10192. Our first step is going to be removing the negative battery cable on both sides. This particular application has two batteries. Im going to start with the passenger side. With the passenger side down well move over to the drivers side and repeat the same process. Now were going to go ahead and remove the cold air intake holes that connect to the air cleaner box.

You see the wire connector here, it goes through the top of the air cleaner box, were going to go ahead and disconnect and remove it also. Well set both aside for reinstallation later. Now were going to remove the top of the air cleaner. Were going to set that aside as it will not be reinstalled later. Were going to pull the air filter out underneath the air filter is a sensor that we will also need to remove under the box.

Were going to turn it 45 degrees and gently pull it up. Well set it aside also. Now we need to go ahead and remove the top of the battery cover. With the battery cover removed we can go ahead and remove the battery hold down so we can remove the battery. Now we need to go ahead and remove the air box.

Setting up our new air box weve got a couple of grummets from our install kit that will need to be installed first. This will be for our air filter sensor and weve got a second grummet here, it needs to be installed also. Now were ready to go ahead and set our box in place. Once we get our box set in place, well feed the filter reminder through the larger of the two grummets that we just installed. Taking our two earlier fasteners, we can go ahead and install the new filter box to the side wall of the vehicle; same place that we removed the old one from.

Next well take our two black Allen headed screws and attach them to the bottom of our new air box to the frame rail. Now that weve got all fasteners installed before we can go ahead and tighten them down. With our filter box tightened down, well go ahead and install the battery pad and now we can install the battery. With our battery sitting in the new intake box, well go ahead and install the supplied brackets and bolts for the new battery hold down.Once weve got them installed we can go ahead and tighten it down. When tightening it down, I just want you to make sure they are tightened down evenly but not to over tighten them. Weve got a new air intake tube to install so were going to go ahead and remove the old one. With our old intake too removed, well install the new one; well feed it through the box and then rotate it so that it lines up with the holes so we can secure it. Before we do that well go ahead and take one of our new clamps as supplied in our install kit and slide it on the plastic inlet too. Well slip on our new booth and then well slide on our other clamp, line it up and secure it to the new box. To secure our inlet too, well go ahead and take our bolt supplied with our install kit, it will come from the back side going in, then well slide on a flat washer, a lock washer then secure it with the nut. Now I can repeat the same process on the other three mounting points. Alright with all of our fasteners installed we can go ahead and tighten them up. With our new air tube tightened to the box, we can go ahead and tighten up our booth clamp. Well take the two clamps thats provided in our install kit, well go ahead and line them up here with both edges and then well tighten them down. Next were going to remove the filter reminder from the old housing; be gentle and careful as you remove it so you do not break it. Take our supplied grummet and install it into the new inlet. Now we can install our filter reminder into that grummet. Once it is installed well take our wire and rerun through the bottom of the new intake box and well reconnect the filter reminder sensor. Well go ahead and install the other sensor that weve removed earlier in the bottom grummet that we installed just before we installed the box. With all of our sensors installed we can now go ahead and take the upper seal trim; its supplied with our install kit and install it. With our box trim down we can take our new AFE power air filter and go ahead and install it. It comes with its own clamp, well slip it on first, slide our air filter into place and then well tighten our clamp down. With our air filter installed we can now go ahead and reattach our battery cables. Alright that completes the two on the drivers side. Now well go ahead and reinstall the negative battery cable on the passenger side. Alright with our negative battery cable reinstalled on the passengers side, that completes the installation of our new AFE power air filter system part number AFE51-101.
