Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2000 Ford Windstar
Getting Started with your Trailer Hitch Installation The first task to be done is to pull the bolts through one hole to another on both sides. Well use the hitch as a template to drill the last two holes. If it is dirty underneath, make sure you take time to shake the bolt to make sure the plate sits flat on the steel inside.
Installation of the Trailer Hitch: Next we hang our hitch from the two bolts installed, then well line up the hitch, snug it down and drill the next two holes. When aligning the hitch there is an existing hole in the frame, an oval slot and we even it up with the slot on the hitch. Next we drill the holes on each side using the hitch as a template. Once the holes are drilled, drag the bolts through as done the first time. If you run into the problem of the bolt not coming through, loosen up the hitch a little bit to give you some wiggle room. Sometime the hitch and the frame are not in alignment when you drill the second hole. Now we make sure its square in the frame again and make our final torque. That concludes the hitch installation on this windstar.
