Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2006 Chevy Uplander
One of the first steps involved is we have to remove some parts to have the ability to install the hitch. The pieces that have to be temporarily removed is this support bar right here and this hangar bar gets temporarily removed as well. Next well install the hitch with the four bolts we took out and temporarily install it, then we get ready for drilling. Once you get your hitch temporarily up there, tighten it up just enough so we can move the hitch around so it can be centered on the frame. One point to note on the 2006 model theres the existing weld nut that was for the thinner support on the passengers side gets re-used on this hitch. Run your bolt in there too to make sure youre centered on the frame. Now that you have your hitch centered on the frame, tighten up the bolts the way you want them, because that will help keep the hitch in place while we drill out our holes. Our hitch is in position so well go ahead and drill out our holes. Now that we have our holes drilled out, well go ahead and our handle nut inside the frame. Were going to bolt from the outside in. First well have to bend up the handle nut to make it go into the slot where you want it to. Remember the exhaust bracket we took down earlier, we can go ahead and put that back up now. Well take off the two bolts since the hitch is being held by the other four. Then well just put that bracket back in its place. All our bolts are back in place, all that remains is torquing them down to their specs. Well start with the center ones and work our way out. That does it for our hitch, it was pretty easy to install. One other note this vehicle didnt have a compressor so that made it a little bit easier for us. If it did have that youd have to take the bracket down, put the hitch up over the bracket mark the second hole and drill it out. Other than that, its a really easy hitch to do.
