Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2004 Subaru Forester
A few of the parts that have to come out to make way for the hitch on the passengers side are the tie down bracket here and the cannister here. With the cannister, these bolts and this bolt and one in the back will have to come out to lower this. So we can get to that bolt, so we can take it out. This will all go back up when were done. Next will do this center support. The bracket wont go back up there, but we will reinstall the screw for safe keeping if the hitch ever comes off
Next well take off the exhaust hanger right here. After that, we take off the tie down bracket and the exhaust bracket.
Trailer Hitch Installation:Next we put the hitch on the vehicle when we have everything out of the way. We also use a strap to pull the exhaust out of the way just to have more working room. Well untether our muffler here, because next we have to put this bracket up behind the hitch and bolt up inside. Weve leaped ahead and put all the bolts in the drivers
Now well start on the passenger side. Well go ahead and this bracket between the hitch and the frame. Theres a little trick to doing that since we have this lowered down. You pop off this bracket here, this hose you slide off, and it gives you more room to run this bracket up to the hitch where you need to
Now all of our bolts are in position we can torque them down starting with the drivers side. Next well reinstall the cannister here. The last thing we need to do is put the fish support we connect to the hitch and rehang the exhaust. That concludes this install
