Honda CR-V Trailer Hitch

Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2010 Honda CR-V

Today we will be working on a 2010 Honda CR-V. We are going to be installing Hidden Hitch part number 87440 which is also comparable to Draw-Tite part number 75547. Here are a couple of measurements that will help you when ing accessories for your new hitch such as a draw bar, a bike rack or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most point of the bumper is 2 inches. And from the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 15-3/4 inches. Now let us go ahead with our installation. 0:32

Our first step will to be to remove the exhaust hangers or insulators. We recommend to hit them with a shot of lubricant just for ease of removal. So we are going to remove the outside exhaust hanger first. You can see that our exhaust will lower. This will give us room to get our hitch in. Here are our two mounting holes on the passenger side. They are going to be identical on the driver side. We are also going to be using the tow hook as a support for our new hitch. Before I put my hitch in place, what I want to do is hit the weld nuts with a little bit of lubricant and just try my new bolt to make sure it is going to fit. Our weld nuts are clear and free of debris so we can go ahead and install our hitch now. 1:20

We are just going to install our hardware finger tight at this time until we get all of the hardware installed. And then we will go back and tighten it down. Now we are going to go ahead and install our U-bolt through our tow hook and then down through our hitch. We are going to use two sets of washers. We have a larger flat washer and then a lock washer. We will do that on both sides of our U-bolt. Now that we have all of our hardware installed, we can go ahead and run them down. Now that we have all of our hardware tightened, we can go ahead and torque to specifications. OK, now we are ready to go ahead and reinstall our exhaust. That completes the installation of our Hidden Hitch part number 87440 on our 2010 Honda CR-V.
