Today on this 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe we will be installing Curt part number 13538. A couple of measurements to be aware of when ing accessories, such as a drawbar, bike carrier or cargo carrier, would be from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most point of the bumper is 5-1/2 inches. And from the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 15 inches. I would first like to point out where our mounting holes are going to be on the rear sub frame of the vehicle. It is almost identical on each side. These are factory mounted holes and being factory threaded holes what we are going to want to do is make sure those threads are free and clear of any dirt and debris. So I am going to take part number 814092, a nylon tube brush, and some lubricant and flush those holes out now. And again we are just cleaning those threads out to make it easy for our new bolts to go in when we go to install our hitch. 1:04
Then repeat for the driver side. Before I go to install my hitch, I always like to take a new bolt that we will be using for the install. Thread it in just to make sure everything is going to go nice and smoothly. Now that we have our holes prepped for the installation, it is a good idea to have a second set of hands when raising the hitch into position. We will be using the bolts and conical tooth washers. The teeth of the washers will face the bottom of the vehicle. Everything is just finger tight because we want to line up all four bolt holes and get everything started before we start to torque anything down. Alright, now that we have everything lined up and hand tightened down, what we want to do is go ahead and snug everything down and then come back and torque everything to specifications. And that will complete the installation of Curt part number 13538 on a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe.
