Today on this 2009 Chevrolet HHR we are going to install part number 24756 from Draw-Tite. This will also apply to part number 60815 from Hidden Hitch. This is what the hitch looks like on the vehicle. Next we will give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground is going to be 10-1/ 4 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the bumper itself is going to be six inches. Next we are going to show you how the hitch gets installed on the vehicle. 00:35
The first thing we need to do on our vehicle to install the hitch is lower the exhaust. Spray down the rubber hangers with some lubricant to make them a little bit easier to remove. There are three hangers that we have to remove, there is one behind the tail pipe, one behind the muffler, and there is one kind of hidden above the muffler towards the tail pipe. The next thing we need to do is enlarge one of the holes in the frame and we are looking at the passenger side frame rail. The driver side should be okay but it would be a good idea to run a drill through it anyway just to make sure it is all clear. Now we can start installing the hardware for the hitch. We are going to install the hardware going from the inside of the frame out. We are going to use this block and the carriage bolt that comes with it. We are also going to use the bolt leader that comes with the kit. 01:22
We will start off by running the leaders through the hole we just drilled out, out the access hole right here. Run the block through and push it through the frame and then thread on the bolt. With that inside and then pull it out, you might have to shake it a little bit to fall through. Then we are going to install the hardware in the exact same spot as our access hole. We are going to do that a little different, we are going to get everything assembled on the outside first, push it all in and then back out just like that. The passenger side is done, lets go over to the driver side and repeat the same process. At this point we can put the hitch onto the vehicle. We will take the driver side and lay it over the top of the exhaust and work on the passenger side first. Now we have got the hitch loosely installed, take a second to move the hitch back and forth to center it up with the center of the bumper. Once you are satisfied with that snug the bolts down and then torque them down as specified in the instructions. With the hitch attached to the vehicle we can reattach the rubber hangers to the muffler and with that, that will finish the install for part number 24756 from Draw-Tite.
