Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2008 Honda CRV
Today we are going to install part number 87440 from Hidden Hitch, and we are going to install this on an 2008 Honda CRV. All right, first we will show you where the hitch mounts up. It will mount on these two holes existing in the frame. It will also mount to the tow hook in the middle of the vehicle. And it also attaches to two same threaded holes above the muffler.
First thing we need to do is go ahead and take down the exhaust. There are two rubber hangers on the very end behind this bumper. And just push them back off and we can lower the exhaust. At this point we can go ahead and start hanging the hitch on the frame, and we slide one half over the muffler and that will hold us on one side. And we will do the drivers side first. All right, once you have got the hitch temporarily up there, you can go ahead and install the rest of the fasteners. Okay, we can go ahead and install the rest of the fasteners. What you want to do is get them started, you do not have to tighten them up. Okay, next we install the U-bolt on the center tie loop. And that is why you need to leave everything loose, so you can get those into position. Once you have all your bolts installed, now we can go ahead and snug them up in place. Once you have all your bolts snugged up, then you can go ahead and give them their final torque. When you torque down the U-bolts, you want to make sure that you do them evenly at the same time. Ideally you want the same amount of threads on each side of the U-bolt.
Next we will go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. It might be easier to take the rubber isolator off completely and then reinstall it back at the top and then put the exhaust back on. Double-check to make sure it will not hit the exhaust. And that will be your final step. All right, that finishes our install of part number 87440 from Hidden Hitch on our 2008 Honda CRV.
