Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2007 Jeep Compass

Today we are going to be installing Draw-Tite hitch part number 36423 on a 2007 Jeep Compass. OK, we are underneath the vehicle, and we are going to go ahead and point out the mounting locations for the trailer hitch. Looking at the passengers side frame rail, you can see on the inboard side here we have got two existing holes. The hitch is actually going to come up the arms are going to come here on the inboard side. We are going to take the 5/8 bolts that are provided in the installation kit and we are going to slide them from the outboard side to the inboard side, and the hitch will go up onto those. And we are going to do that same thing for both sides of the vehicle. So I am going to take the bolts back out, and then we will go ahead and put the hitch up into position.

You are going to need to hold it in place while you feed the bolts through, and that will allow it to hold up. And then you can put the fasteners on after that. Here at the forwardmost attaching point, we are going to use the conical-tooth washer and nut. On the rearmost bolt we use the lock washer and nut. And we are going to do that same thing for both sides of the vehicle. OK, now that I have got the bolts snugged down, I am going to go ahead and torque them now. We want to check with our directions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each of the individual bolts. And with all the bolts torqued down, our installation is complete. This will conclude the installation of hitch part number 36423 on a 2007 Jeep Compass.
