Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2007 Dodge Charger RT

Today we are going to install part number 13465 from Curt on a 2007 Dodge Charger RT. The first thing we need to do is lower the exhaust. We have got two points we need to lower: one here, and one in the back. Now, we can simply unbolt those from the frame and it will come down. And we will do that on both sides. And also, for added safety, and to keep the stress down on the exhaust, we added this safety strap here. And one other point we need to disconnect will be right here, that is going to be right in front of the converter here. And basically we are going to just take this off and let the exhaust fall down as much as possible, limited by the strap, of course. And that will give us plenty of working room. Now we will take down this side of the exhaust. All right, and now we will do the passengers side.

Next we are going to fish wire our hardware into the frame. Basically what we are going to do is pull the hardware from this access hole, here, and go right through back through this hole here. And the other two attachment points are the threaded openings, here. So we are going to start by running our bolt leader through the hole we are going to pull the bolt through and back out the access hole. Get our plate. That will go over the wire. Push that into place and then add our bolt. That just threads right onto it just like a nut. And let us pull everything through. And there are two more holes on the drivers side that we will have to do, too.

All right, now we will go ahead and install the hitch onto our frame. We will use the passengers side muffler to kind of hold up the passengers side while we install the bolt on the drivers side. All right, next we will line up the holes on the passengers side. We will actually use the bolt that threads in to hold it in place for now because it will be easier to get to. Next, we can go ahead and install the rest of the hardware. Once we have got all our bolts and nuts started, then we can go ahead and snug them down. And make sure when your bolts are started and then snugged down you go ahead and torque them down to the specified ratings in the instructions. At this point, we can go ahead and reinstall the exhaust hangers. OK, the last thing is the hanger on the back, here. We will go ahead and pop that back on. And then we will take down the strap. And there you have it for part number 13465 on our 2007 Dodge Charger RT.
