Custom Fit Trailer Hitch
Today we are going to install part number 75434 from Draw-Tite. And we are going to install this hitch on a 2006 Saturn Vue. This install also applies to part number 87135 from Hidden Hitch. First off, we will show you where the hitch mounts onto the vehicle. The first spot we are going to show you is right here at the bumper. There are two square holes, here and here. We will have to pull hardware from the edge of the bumper from the inside out to install that hardware right there. And then the hitch will wrap around the edge of the plastic here and bolt up to the bumper. The second spot is going to be in the side of the frame. And on the side of the frame, it is going to use these two holes right here: here and here. Now, sometimes they get clogged up with dirt, so it is a good idea to spray it down with some cleaner to get out all of the loose junk that accumulates in there. And the last place the hitch mounts up is going to be right here in this bottom oval hole on the bottom of the frame, and it is going to do that on both sides of the vehicle. Sometimes you will find dirt and junk in the way, like this just coming through the body panel here. Sometimes it will get in the way of installing the hitch. If it does, just go ahead and just scrape it off.
This is the pull wire that the kit comes with. However, it is a little bit on the short side, because when you put it through the bumper, by the time it comes out on the other side you only have about this much left. So what we are going to do is add a piece of wire here, and we are just going to add it onto it and just extend it, and maybe life will be a little bit easier on ourselves. We will put a bolt leader through this hole here first, and we will work it out the other side to the edge of the bumper, and then install our hardware on our bolt leader. Next we will slip in our block, and it is going to be the smaller of the two blocks in the kit. And then we will thread on our bolt, and we will pull the whole assembly through the bumper and out the hole. And try not to pop it through, because these little plastic rivets may get in the way of pulling it through. So you might have to take a few attempts to get to it. Then you just pull it through and undo your leader, and do the same thing for the other side.
All right, we will go ahead and install our hardware in the bottom frame here. We are going to do it a little bit different from going through the bumper. What we will do is start off with the block over the wire, and then we will thread on our bolt, and then we will put our whole assembly inside and then pull it back through. And we are going to do that on both sides. Next, we can go ahead and install our hitch onto our bolts. We will install some nuts on the bolts on the bottom of the frame, and we will take care when we put the hitch on not to push the bolts in the bumper back up into the bumper. And at this point it is a good idea to have an extra set of hands. Now we will install our bolts onto the side of the frame up here. And we are just going to get them started for now, because we still want to leave everything loose. At this point we can go ahead and start snugging down our bolts, since we have got everything started now. And since we are here, we will go ahead and snug these bolts down. Now we can go ahead and torque down our bolts to the specified ratings as listed in the instructions. All right, and that covers part number 75434 from Draw-Tite.
