Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2006 GMC Sierra

Today we are going to install a Curt hitch, part number 13322, on a 2006 GMC Sierra. We lowered the spare tire, just so we have more room to work with. And I will go ahead and point out all the mounting locations which we are going to use for the hitch. There is an existing bolt here on the frame rail, and it is on both sides. And then we are going to use the bolt right behind it this is where we are going to have to install hardware. And then in the center there are two more mounting locations on the hitch, and these are already threaded, so this should be pretty straightforward.

The first step is we are going to remove the existing hardware so we can hang the hitch into position with it next. All right, now as you raise the hitch put it in the bolt hole that you just removed the existing bolt from and use the new hardware from the kit. Just put the bolt in on both sides. And that way the hitch will be suspended there for you so you can add the rest of your hardware. Now the next step is we are going to add our block and our carriage bolt. Drop it into position, and then we install the flange nut.

Next is the center portion of the hitch, and it is just two threaded bolt holes in the center, one on each side of the receiver tube. It would really help yourself out if you were to actually run a bolt in and out a few times just to help clean out the bolt holes before you started the install, because they are always exposed and there is always a little bit of rust and debris. Now that you have all the hardware loosely installed, go ahead and snug them all up. Make sure you get the hitch centered and lined up, and we will torque them down next. Now we are going to torque down all the bolts. And be sure to torque down all the bolts to the specified torque settings in the instructions. And that concludes our install of part number 13322, on a 2006 GMC Sierra.
