Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe

Today we are going to be installing Hidden Hitch part number 87419 on a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe. This hitch application will also apply for Draw-Tite part number 41543. Looking underneath the vehicle, we have gone ahead and removed the spare tire to get it out of the way. Looking at the drivers side frame rail, you can see we have got a bolt here at the end of the frame and three bolts that are attaching the tow hook to the frame, and then an extra weld nut here. Those are going to provide all of our attaching points here on the drivers side.

And over here on the passengers side of the vehicle, you can see we have got a tow hook as well, with two bolts holding it in, and then one rearward in it. Those three will provide our attaching points here on the passengers side. You can see we have also got the exhaust here. So we are going to need to remove it off of its two rear-most hangers, as well as the forward-most hanger, up near the main crossmember. To help in the removal of the exhaust off of its hangers, I am going to go ahead and use a spray lubricant, like a WD-40, to spray the studs down. Before removing the exhaust off of its final hanger, I am going to make sure we put some kind of a support strap across the exhaust tube here. When you do remove the final hanger, the exhaust will want to fall down.

Okay, with the bolts removed, we can go ahead and put the hitch up in position. In each of the weld nuts that we removed the bolt from, we will be replacing those with the 10-millimeter bolts with the conical-tooth washer. And for the forward-most weld nut here on the drivers side, we will be using the 12-millimeter bolt with the conical-tooth washer. Now that we have got all the bolts up into place, we can go back through and torque them down. You want to verify with the directions the appropriate torque rating for each individual bolt. Now that we have got our bolts torqued down, we just want to make sure we put our exhaust and our spare tire back up into place, and our installation will be complete. This will conclude the installation of hitch part number 87419 on a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe.
