Today we are going to install part number 41549 from Draw-Tite. And we are going to install this on a 2005 Ford F150. First off, we are going to show you which holes in the frame the hitch is going to attach to. It is going to attach to the side of the frame as opposed to the bottom, which is more common. We will use this hole on the end of the frame here, the round hole on top, and then this square hole toward the front of the vehicle. And it will be the same on both sides.
The first thing we are going to do is we are going to thread our bolt leader through the hole. What we are going to is to put a plate in there, and then we are going to install our bolt to the thread leader, and then we are just going to leave it all together inside the frame. We want to end up with the wire hanging out. So what is going to happen is we are going to put our hitch up, thread our wire through the hitch hole, then push it up, then pull our bolt through. It sounds more complicated than it is. But, as long as you have got an extra set of hands, one on each side, lift it up into position, pull the bolts through, and then put the nuts on there to secure it, and then we will do the other four.
Now that we have the hitch in position, it is a little bit easier to identify also which holes we need to thread the bolt leaders through, too, while we are going farther back in the frame. We will thread the rest of our bolts through now. What we are going to do is thread from the outside in. We are going to go through this hole here and come out the square hole here and install our hardware. All right, and repeat the same process for the next hole down toward the front of the vehicle. Okay, and the idea is to repeat these same steps on the drivers side of the vehicle.
We have got our bolts installed. We have got them finger tight. Now we can go ahead and just give them their final torque, at this point. And we will torque down the bolts to the specified torque settings in the instructions. We will start from the forward and work our way back. All right, and that finishes our install of part number 41549 from Draw-Tite on our 2005 Ford F150.
