Here are a couple of measurements that will assist you with ing accessories for your new hitch, such as a draw bar, a bike rack or a cargo carrier. Now let us go ahead with the installation. 0:24
For this particular application, our first step is going to be removing the tow hook and bracket from the frame. This will be our rear most mounting location, the middle and the very forward most mounting location for the driver side. These holes will be repeated on the passenger side. Before we try and install our new hardware, we are going to clean out the threads of our rear mounting location on the passenger side. Use a little spray penetrant and a nylon tube brush, part number 814092. We will use that to clean all of the built up rust, dirt and debris out of the treads before we try and install our new hardware. 1:20
Now that we have all of our old fasteners removed, we are ready to install our new hitch. This would be a good opportunity to get a second set of hands to help you put it in place and get your bolts started. We will be using the bolts and conical tooth washers that are supplied in the installation kit. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch. For this application here on the passenger side, we are going to need to a spacer that will take up the distance between the hitch and the frame to compensate for the shield in the front of the hitch and the bracket on the driver side. Now we can go ahead and tighten and torque to specifications all of our fasteners. And that will complete the installation of Curt hitch part number 13051.
