Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country

Today on a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country we are going to install part number 87717 from Hidden Hitch. First off we will show you where the hitch actually mounts up on the frame. It is going to mount up using existing bolts in the frame on one part and some existing holes further back in the frame. This is actually going to be identical on both sides of the vehicle. And also before you do your install when you take this bolt out spray it down with WD-40 or some kind of penetrate because over the years bolts inside here will get rusted shut and it is very easy to break the bolts.

Our next step is to go ahead and install hardware into the frame. Then your access hole as listed in the instructions is this one right here and you will have to enlarge it to get the hardware in. However there is another way of doing it, we will show you how to do that today. Run your bolt leader out the back towards the end of the frame out through the bumper bracket and there is a little plastic piece there that you kinda have to push out of the way to get your hardware back through. But you can actually pull it all the way back through that way without having to enlarge the hole in the frame.

Now I will go ahead and put our bolt into place then push that back in and pull it on through. All right we will do the same thing again for this bolt hole. Okay now we have that done with we can do the same thing for the other side. At this point we can go ahead and lift our hitch up into position. We will just go ahead and use a couple nuts to hold it in place while we get the rest of the hardware installed. We are going to leave all our hardware loose, so we can move the hitch around so we can make sure we get the factory bolts to go straight back into the bumper bracket. All right and at this point we can go ahead and snug down our bolts. Okay now we have our bolts snugged down now we can go ahead and torque the bolts down as specified in the instructions. All right and that finishes it for part number 87717 from Hidden Hitch.
