Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2002 Chevy Express Van

Today we are working on a 2002 Chevy Express van. We will be installing a Curt hitch, part number 13040. Here are a couple of hitch measurements that will help you with ing accessories for your new hitch, such as a bike rack, a cargo carrier or a draw bar. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer most point of the bumper is 3 inches. And from the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 13-1/2 inches. Now let us go ahead with the installation. 0:27

Let us go ahead and point out our mounting holes now. This will be our rearmost fastener and we have a middle fastener. And this hole here will be our forward most fastening point. This will be identical on the passenger side. Before I can install my hitch, though, I want to take a scraper or a knife, anything you can use, just to clean up the underside of the frame here so I can get a good flat metal to metal contact. Ok, before we can put our hitch in position, we are going to take our block and bolt. Put those together. Go inside the frame here and them down into our predrilled holes. There is the driver side. I will repeat the same process on the passenger side. 1:16

Next we are ready to go ahead and install our hitch. It is a good time to get an extra set of hands to help you put it in place. We will be using our 1/2 inch flange nuts t hat are supplied in our install kit to tighten it down. With all of my fasteners in position, we are just going to go ahead and tighten them down. Now I will repeat the same process on the passenger side. With all of our fasteners tightened down, we can go ahead and torque each one of our fasteners to specifications as per the instructions. With all of our fasteners torqued to specifications that completes the installation of Curt hitch part number 13040.
