Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 87410 by Hidden Hitch on a 2001 Chevrolet Venture. OK, the first thing we want to do is to remove the load leveling compressor bracket and drill out our hole. OK, with the hole now drilled in the load leveling compressor bracket we can go ahead and put the load leveler back up into place. We just want to put the nuts back on the studs over here on the sidewall because we are going to use new hardware when we put the hitch up into position in these attaching points. OK we are back over on the passengers side now, and we want to go ahead and remove the bolts out of the frame that are holding the exhaust bracket up into place. At that time we can go ahead and put the hitch up into position. The installation kit with the hitch has actually provided new hardware to put into these weld nuts here, and it has got new hardware for the drivers side as well. So we want to make sure we put that into place when we put the hitch up into position.
OK, we want to make sure the hitch on the passengers side makes contact with the frame directly. So we want to put the exhaust bracket on the bottom side of the hitch and then put the bolt through. With the four bolts up inside the frame now, we can go ahead and loosely install those, and then we can go ahead and drill out the holes in the other attaching points. We are going to go ahead and drill out the hole in the drivers side frame rail first, and you can see it is the rearmost attaching point. I am going to use a 1/4-inch pilot hole and then we are going to go ahead and enlarge that to a half-inch. OK, over here on the passengers side, on the rearmost hole, we need to drill that one, as well. Again, it needs to be a half-inch hole.
Over here on the forwardmost side, you can see there are two holes. And, depending on the vehicle you have, that is going to allow for different setups. On 2005 and newer models, there is actually going to be an existing weld nut that will align with the rearmost hole here. On 2004 and older models, the short-wheelbase models, will have an existing slot that will align with the forwardmost hole so that you will not have to drill it out. And on 2004 and older long-wheelbase models, which is what this vehicle is here, you see that there is nothing to align with the holes. So we are going to have to go ahead and drill out a hole here on the forwardmost side.
We are going to go ahead and put the bolt into the forwardmost attachment that we just drilled the hole in. For that, we are going to need to use the bolt leader that is provided with the hardware kit. We are just going to feed that up through the drill hole, out through the slot in the frame here. For this attaching point we are going to go ahead and use the block that has the square hole in it and the carriage bolt as well. So we just want to feed the bolt leader through the block, wrap the bolt leader around the threads on the bolt. That is going to allow us to pull both items through the frame here, like so. There are extra blocks that we need to put at this specific attaching point for this particular model, which is a long wheelbase. We actually just want to put two of the blocks at the bottom here, and then we are going to attach it with a lock washer and a nut as well. And I am just going to hand tighten that for the time being.
For the rearmost attachment where we drilled the holes, this one is going to be a little bit different. We are actually going to use the handle nut that they provided with the kit. And this is actually going to go inside the frame and go over the top of the hole that we just drilled. And we are actually going to thread this bolt and lock washer down through the bottom of the frame and up through the hole. In order to do so, we need to take the handle nut and kind of manipulate it to where the threads will actually sit at the bottom of the frame over the hole that we had just drilled. So I am going to kind of go ahead and do that now. I just want to bend the handle nut, kind of an L shape, which will allow it to go in through the hole and down into place. And then we can just thread that through at the bottom here. And we want to go ahead and do that on the drivers side, as well. All right, and now that we have got all the fasteners loosely installed into place, we can go ahead and go back through and torque them all down. The 10-millimeter bolts are going to get torqued to 42 foot-pounds, and then all the half-inch fasteners will be torqued down to 75 foot-pounds. All right, and with all bolts torqued down, our installation is complete, and this will conclude the installation of part number 87410 by Hidden Hitch on a 2001 Chevrolet Venture.
