Today on this 2000 Honda Odyssey, we are going to be installing Hidden Hitch part number 87479. And this installation will also apply for Draw-Tite hitch part number 75270. OK, we are underneath the vehicle and we are looking actually at the driver side frame rail. We want to go ahead and point out the mounting holes we are going to be using to attach our trailer hitch. You will notice that we have multiple holes here in the bottom of the frame. We are going to be using three of the existing weld nuts here on the bottom of the frame to attach the hitch. We are going to use the two here at the rearmost portion of the frame and if you follow forward, we are going to use one at the forward side. Alright, and that is going to be the same on the passenger side as well. 0:34
However, on the passenger side, we do need to go ahead and lower the exhaust off of its rearmost hanger to give us a little bit more working room. And to do that, we are just going to take a spray lubricant, like a WD-40, and go ahead and spray the studs of the exhaust hanger down. This is going to make the removal much easier. And we will just take a pair of pliers or a pry bar and separate the two. You can see now that I can maneuver the exhaust back and forth to gain a little bit more access to the bottom of the frame rail. And it is a good idea on any vehicle that has seen at least one winter to thoroughly clean the weld nuts before we attempt to put the hitch up in position. To accomplish this, we are going to be using a spray lubricant. And then we just want to take a wire brush and go ahead and run it inside the weld nut. Spin it around a few times and that should help to loosen up that road grime and debris that is broke up in there. And we want to do that with all six of the weld nuts. 1:28
And then again, before we put the hitch up, I am going to go ahead and run the bolts in and out of the weld nuts a few times. Again, that is going to help further clean out the weld nuts so that we have less resistance wend we go to put the hitch up in position. With all of the holes thoroughly cleaned out, we can go ahead and put the hitch up into position. To attach the hitch to the vehicle, we are going to be using the 12 millimeter bolts, along with a conical tooth washers. And then with all of the bolts in position, we just want to go ahead and torque them down. You want to verify with the directions the specific torque rating for each of the bolts. And with all of the bolts torqued down, we just want to make sure we put our exhaust back up on its hanger and our installation will be complete. 2:04
And now that we have our trailer hitch installed, we want to go ahead and give you a couple of dimensions that will help make choosing your hitch accessories a little bit easier. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is going to measure 11-1/4 inches. And from the center of the pin hole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to be approximately 6 inches. This will conclude the installation of Hidden Hitch part number 87479 on a 2000 Honda Odyssey.
