Dodge Durango Trailer Hitch

Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2000 Dodge Durango

Today we are going to be installing hitch part number V81600 on a 2000 Dodge Durango. The first thing you want to do is to go ahead and remove your spare tire. That will give you a lot more room to get the hitch up into place. We are underneath the vehicle now and we are going to go ahead and point out the mounting location for the trailer hitch. There are three attaching points on the passengers side and there are four on the drivers side. So the first thing we want to do is to go ahead and put all the hardware into place. It will consist of carriage bolts and blocks for most of the locations. On the mounting locations for the vertical tabs on each side there is actually a carriage slot built into the trailer hitch, so that we do not need a block in those locations - we only need a carriage bolt. For the two here on the drivers side I am actually going to use the fish wire that was provided in the installation kit. We are going to feed that up through the hole and then out through the larger hole here in the side of the frame. I am just going to wrap that around our carriage bolt and then pull that down into position. Then another carriage bolt and block here in the crossmember. And then we can go ahead and put the hitch up into position.

It may help to have a second set of hands here to get the hitch up into position. We want to go ahead and do the final two attaching points, which are the two tabs here at the end of the frame. All right, and now that we have got all the fasteners in place, we can go ahead and torque our bolts down. You want to check with the instructions to verify the specific torque rating for each individual bolt. OK, and with all the bolts torqued down, our installation is complete. And you want to make sure you put your spare tire back up into place when you are done. And this will conclude the installation of hitch part number V81600 on a 2000 Dodge Durango.

Before we get started with our installation we are going to give you a couple of final install dimensions which will help make choosing your hitch accessories a little bit easier. From the top of the receiver opening to the ground is going to measure 18 inches, and from the center of the pin hole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to measure approximately 3 inches, and now well go ahead and move on to the installation. Okay and up underneath the vehicle the first thing that weve done is lower the spare tire down just a little bit. Just enough where if you need to manipulate the hitch around it you can.

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Dodge Durango

Today on this 2007 Dodge Durango we will be installing Curt hitch part number 13296. The first thing we want to do in preparation to installing our hitch is to remove the spare tire to get it out of our way. Looking at the driver side frame rail at the inboard side we have got two attach bolts here and one free bolt here on the forward side. We are going to need to remove the two here at the rear of the vehicle and the third one we are actually just going to remove the nut from the outboard side. We are going to reuse this bolt for our hitch installation and that will be the same for the passenger side as well. For the forward bolt we just want to push it through. You can see they will not fully come out because it is hitting on the body mount here. We want to push it back far enough to where the bolt sits about even with the flange here at the bottom side of the bumper bracket. At the two rear most attaching points we are going to be putting in new bolts along with the flat washer. We just want to slide those through just about the same position as the forward most fastener. 01:00
