Install part number V82460 from Valley we will install this 2 inch receiver hitch on a 1996 Ford F150 pickup truck. First thing what you want to do is installing the hitch on this vehicle is you want to go ahead and lower the spare tire down. As you can see we already have that down and out of the way. Next we will show you where the hitch mounts up on the frame. The hitch will mount to the bottom of the frame rail but there are no existing holes so we will have to drill out all the holes on this hitch. It will be identical on both sides. :26
At this point we will go ahead and grab our hitch and basically put the hitch up to the frame and clamp it into place. Then we will go ahead and mark our holes and drill them out. When you put the hitch up against the frame we want to make sure that this tab here rests against this rivet. :41
The next thing we are going to do is just go ahead and mark our holes with a 9/ 16ths bit, we just made a little mark in there. So now we found the center of the hitch holes and drilled it out with at 1/ 4 inch bit then work out way up there. Okay and the same thing is going to happen on the other side of the vehicle on the drivers side frame. We will go ahead next and take down the hitch and we will drill out our holes. We will go with our next size drill bit, finish it off with the 9/ 16ths bit. 1:49
Next we will install the hardware into the frame, this will be our plate and bolt and it will go inside here. At this point point we can go ahead and lift the hitch into position and install the nuts and washers. Once you have the bolts all snugged down you can go ahead and torque them down as specified in the instructions. Once you have the hitch installed torqued down go ahead and put your spare tire back up. Some tire and carrier combinations will end up with a little modification. What you want to do is loosen the bolt in the back or scoot the tire up to the front and then you will have some room upfront here to put your bolt back onto the carrier. All right and there you have it for part number V82460 from Valley on a 1996 Ford F150.
