Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 1994 Ford Van

Today on this 1994 Club Wagon, Full size van we are going to install part number V74080 from Valley. First off we will show you where the hitch mounts up on the frame of the vehicle. The hitch will use these first two holes in the frame, closest to the bumper. Here and here. And we will use the hitch as a template to drill our last hole that is going forward toward the front of the vehicle. We will go ahead and install the hardware for the first two holes. :27

First off we will use the 1-3/ 4 bolt and block, we want to set that into the frame. Working our way forward our first bolt is going to be 2-1 /4 inch carriage bolt, use the same type of block. And then the final hole going toward the front of the vehicle, use the 1-3 /4 bolt. We will do the same thing back on the drivers side frame rail.:47

Now we will go ahead and lift the hitch into position. It is a good idea to have an extra set of hands because it can be a little awkward at times. We will just put it in place for now and use a couple of nuts to hold it into place. Next what we have to do is install our spacer between the frame and the hitch to make up for the gap that is in between there because the rear part of the hitch here has a steel overlay on the frame, so we have to keep it all nice and even. We are going to get that snug and go to the first bolt we put in and take off the nut and install the conical tooth washer there. We will go ahead and do the same thing on the drivers side. Snug down the bolts, and then use our hitch as a template to drill out the forward hole. 1:31

Next we can loosen up the hitch a little bit, and install our bolt and the spacer back here. Then we will follow that up with our conical tooth washer and nut. We will do the same thing back on the drivers side frame rail. All right we have all the bolts installed, we can go ahead and snug them down and then we will torque them as specified in the instructions. From the center of the hitch pin hole, to the edge of the bumper is about 3 /4 of an inch. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground, on this particular vehicle, 16 inches. There you have it for part number V74080 from Valley.
