Review of Dielectric Grease

Today we are going to talk about dielectric grease. A lot of people have most likely never heard of it. You can use it on any electrical connection or junction. If there was a plug going in between a truck and a trailer. Say for instance you have a 4 pole flat. You can apply just a little bit and plug the other 4 pole into it. That way you can have the grease on both pins. What happens is the grease helps cut down on the corrosion. Which happens when electrolysis happens. What that means is that the current will run through the metal here and react to the air. Thats how you get that green stuff that you see. This will slow that down quite a bit.

When you install a T1 connector you can dab just a little bit inside the connectors too. It does not take much all you really need is a thin line of grease. It really does not take much at all. When you have it ready to connect to the car side it is secure and no air can get in there. It provides another layer of protection. It is kind of hard to see but it does put a layer on both sides. This is a little cheat if you are ever in need of a gel filled quick splice and you are out of them you can make your own. You take a regular old quick splice and split it open and take a little dab right in there. It does not take much then you squeeze it back over and together and use it just like normal. Squeeze it over your wire that way you have a corrosion proof connection with a regular quick splice. It still might be a good idea to cover it up with electrical tape but this will defiantly slow down the corrosion process.

Last but not least on your exterior ground like on your exterior trailers or on the bottom of your vehicle. Put a little dab of grease on the place your going to drill at. Then drill right through it and into the steel. It will drag the grease into the threads and into the steel so you have protection on the outside and going into the steel itself. One other thing is you can use this on your battery terminals on your car. It is the same process, electrolysis happens on your posts on the battery. Clean them up really good and apply a thin layer of grease then make your connections. That will make your batter posts last a bit longer.
