Review of the Thule Bed Rider Truck Bed Bike Rack

If you are taking your bike along for the ride than this is the to keep it secure. Corrosion resistant aluminum construction makes this expandable bike rack lightweight and easy to use. This bike rack comes equipped to hold two bikes, however a third bracket can be added by ordering part # BR1. This bike rack works great with all bed liners and bed sizes because of its telescoping nature of the device. As you can see by the telescoping design of this bicycle rack, it will expand pretty easily. Again we are using a smaller truck here but it can easily go up to a full size pickup. To do that, we push this button down and you can see we have a fair amount of adjustment on the width of the truck. Also about the brackets there is an infinite adjustment on those too. These brackets actually just clamp on to the telescoping rod itself. These two set screws is what holds everything in place.

Also there are security features involved with the bolts themselves. It is kind of hard to see, but these are torque bolts and they have a little pin on the inside that keeps someone from using a conventional torques threading and possibly stealing your equipment. This kit comes with a special tool to loosen that up or tighten as needed. As you can see, this end here is also threaded to make up for a little bit of adjustment to tighten up with these bed rails. On the opposite side here you have the locking device that keeps it from spinning once you have it installed. This has its own key lock and we will show how it works. It basically flips up and the whole bicycle rack revolves around this pin here and of course on the other side it forces it in or out depending on the way you turn it. You can see this whole rack consists of aluminum material and high impact plastic. Now we will show you how this gets installed on the vehicle.

To begin our install, we adjust it to get as close as we possibly can. And we will go ahead and just slide it up here. It might take a few attempts to get it the right width. Once you have it where it sits on its own like this, you can unlock this latch here, pull up on this, and this bracket is what locks it in place and keeps it from twisting. Now we can go ahead and twist the bike rack to tighten it up against the bed rails. As you can see, the threads are coming out and pushing against the wall of the truck. Once you have it tight enough you can go ahead and re-latch it. Alright, once we have our bike rack installed, we can go ahead and install a bike and I can show you how that works. It is pretty simple. First off, you do have to take the front wheel off of your bicycle. With the bracket here, it works just like your bicycle wheel. You want to go ahead and unthread it a little bit and give you some working room, make sure it moves back and forth. And we will go ahead and put our forks onto that axle replacement. Once you have the forks engaged, we just go ahead and tighten it up just a hair. And just like a bicycle wheel, you go ahead and put your lever down and tighten it up. And there you have it. Your bike is safe and secure and it will definitely not go anywhere as you are going down the road. Also, as you can see, this bike has a caliph for upfront for disc brakes.
