Review of the Swagman XT2 Bike Carrier
Today we are going to show you part number S63360 from Swagman. This is a bicycle rack that is designed to fit 1-1/4 inch hitches only. It will carry up to 2 bikes. The design of this rack does fold away and fold up for easy storage. This bicycle rack is also tilted to allow you easy access to the rear of your vehicle. Next, we will go ahead and install in a typical class I receiver hitch and show you how it works. When you install the bicycle rack, it actually comes with a bolt instead of a pin and clip. So what it does, it basically just threads into the hitch and bicycle rack. And what that gives you is a built in anti-sway device and it is also harder to steal the bike rack off the vehicle. And after you have your bolt installed, you go ahead and it comes with a safety clip too. The next feature we are going to show actually is the tilting of this bicycle rack. It is pretty easy. You pull this pin out here, take it out, and you tilt the whole assembly down. And that way you have easy access to the trunk area of your vehicle.
The next feature we are going to show you will be the arms themselves. Actually, the top end of the assembly actually folds for storage and I will show you how to do that. Again, it is just a simple pin that you remove, rotate the arms, and then put the pin back in its place. Next we will show you the cradles. They are pretty neat. They are infinitely adjustable really, depending on the distance you need between the bikes, back and forth. And also, if you have to, you can actually tilt them. And this is a strap that actually holds everything down to the cradles. It is pretty simple. You just pull it over the bike, the strap just snaps in over the cradle, like so. Also, what is nice about these cradles is that the cradles themselves are made out of really durable plastic. It almost feels kind of like rubberish, a little bit. And the straps themselves of course are made out of rubber, so there is no scratching on your bicycle whatsoever. And there are also groves on the inside of your cradle to allow for your cables to run through too.
Now we will go ahead and install a couple of bikes. We are going to start off with a regular frame bicycle and then follow up with an alternative frame bicycle. Also, when you are installing the bicycles, it is a good idea to get a bungee cord or some kind of tie-down to keep the handlebars and wheels straight too. Alright, there you have it, 2 different style frames installed on a bicycle rack. And you also notice that there is plenty of ground clearance too. And there you have it for part number S63360 from Swagman, the XT2 bike rack.
