Today we are going to install part number TH342 from Thule. This is part of the Professional Line. This is a Cap Rack System that gets bolted to the top of the cap of your truck whether it be a fiberglass unit as we have shown here or an aluminum unit that can be also available. The first step involved is to find a place where you can actually mount the rack itself. Generally, in the corners of the cap area is going to be your strongest area. Try not to go too far forward away from the corner, to keep it as strong as possible. Also, you have to take into account what is underneath here. On aluminum racks, you have the bars that are going across the frame of it. And also, on some fiberglass caps, such as this one, there is a layer of insulation or a thicker material underneath here. We actually had to fit between that thicker layer and the corner here, so that is why these are sitting as far in the corner as possible. And once you have the pads in place where you want them, we did tape them down to hold everything in place. And we will go ahead and drill out our holes to mount them. more

Today we are going to install part number 11179 from Curt on our 2001 BMW 530i. To begin our install, we are going to get underneath some access panels here. First off, we have to get to the spare tire cover and actually take out the spare tire. We will be drilling into the spare tire well, so it is always a good idea to stay away from the spare tire. After removing the spare tire, we will get behind these access panels here. And there are three nuts with integrated washers that actually bolt the bumper to the end of this frame rail, right here. And we need to take those three completely off. And it will be the same on both sides. All right, there are three clips that need to be removed to take off the bumper. There is one on the bottom, one kind of on the side there, and then finally there is one up there toward the top. We just need to take the center part out of it and the rivet will come out, and we can move this splash guard out of the way. Okay, at this point we can go ahead and remove the bumper. We need to do that to have access for drilling. And at this point, you will need an extra set of hands. more

Today we are going to show you part number S80980 from Swagman. This is their To Go Beverage Cup Holder. This is the beverage holder here itself. Obviously you can slide your can or cup or whatever you can use that will fit in there. And this is the part here that actually clips onto the bicycle handlebar itself. Basically what it does is, this part is a clamp that goes onto the handlebar. And it is easily adjusted by this tab right here. You slide it over your handlebar and then you just basically clamp it down tight to lock it into place. Pretty simple device you can easily transport it between different bicycles. We will go ahead and install it on a bicycle and show you how it looks. more

Today we are going to show you part number 10501 from Cipa. This is Cipas Custom Towing Mirror. These mirrors are custom made for each individual vehicle. In this instance, we actually use a Dodge Durango for our test fit. This mirror extension sits up on the factory mirror. It slides onto the factory mirror just about right here. And what keeps it in place is this wedge, which gets installed between the factory mirror and the extension mirror, right here. Now I will clamp this into place. And what actually tightens everything down is this knob, which goes on the back side of the mirror. It gets screwed in there and applies pressure to the back of the wedge, which in turn clamps the mirror to the factory mirror. more

Today we are going to show you part number TH962XT from Thule. This is the Thule Speedway Three-Bike Carrier. And this is a trunk-mounted rack. This is also available in a two-bike version, known as part number TH961XT. First we will point out the Thule Fit Dial here. Basically, what this does is adjust the spacing of the rack itself as it goes onto the vehicle. It is really easy to use. There are a variety of positions that you can use it on. It is pretty easy. You actually unscrew this bolt, here. And there is one on each side we just have the one in for now. You can see that it adjusts the rack itself to fit a variety of contours on the vehicle. From something like that, that would sit on the back of a car, to an SUV, or a station wagon where it may need to be flattened out. And what is nice about the instructions that come with this, the Dial Fit actually tells you what position to use for the type of vehicle you have. It makes it real easy to match up to your vehicle right off the bat. And also the arms, right here, do swing out of the way if you need to. There is one button on each side. Just push them in and they rotate down. Or, if you would like, you can actually take them apart. more

Today we are going to show you part number 51953 from OSI. This is their four-bike bicycle rack. This bicycle rack features heavy-duty steel construction with a locking top plate that secures up to four bikes. What also is nice about this unit is that it actually swings out of the way so you have rear access to your vehicle. This rack does fit 2-inch receivers only, and the actual rack swings out up to 42 inches out to the side. And the cradles themselves will handle a bike frame up to 1-1/2 inches in diameter. Today we are going to show you part number 5801200 from Highland. This is their Sportwing two-bike rack. This will fit 1-1/4 and 2- inch receiver hitches. We will go ahead and install this in a 2-inch receiver hitch and show you how it works. It is pretty simple. It does use two pieces of metal as a bushing to install in 2-inch receiver hitches. If you use 1-1/4 inch, you do not need the bushings. Again, we will show you how it goes together. We will use these two pieces here, that is going to be like a bushing, for a 2-inch receiver hitch. Basically, you just line them up together, like so. And you can orient these either way, depending on the depth of your hitch. So it is not a hard and fast rule to have them a certain orientation. And basically, you just line them up as best you can. Kind of grab them by the edge here, and then you can just go ahead and install it in the hitch. Put our pieces together, grab the ends, and install it in your hitch. And it is going to be loose for now. Install your anti-sway bolt. Take your flat washer and your lock nut - and it is a nylon lock nut - and just go ahead and tighten it down. The bicycle rack does come with the tool for the Allen head but you do need a separate wrench for the nut itself. And we use a 16-mm wrench on this nut. All right, and essentially what this does is that the bolt pulls the whole assembly to one side of the hitch and locks it into place so it cannot move. more

Today we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 30130 for a 2006 Ford Escape. The attachment points for the wiring harness are going to be located behind the taillight assemblies, so the first thing we are going to do is to remove the taillight assemblies from the vehicle. That is going to require removing the two screws here on the inboard side. You want to be careful when removing the taillight assembly to make sure you do not break any of the locking tabs that are inside. You want to go ahead and do that on both sides of the vehicle. more

Today we are going to be installing part number 393341 on a 2006 Ford Escape. All right, the first thing we are going to do, obviously, is get the hood up and into place. We want to go ahead and put the bug shield on and check for the alignment of the holes that are existing in the underside of the hood. Holding the bug shield up into place, you can see that there are two existing holes here, in the hood, as well as one off to the side. And it is going to be that way on both sides of the vehicle. more

Today we are going to show you part number TH910, the Passage 2 from Thule. This is a 2 Bike Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Carrier. It goes on the back of your vehicle it does not require a trailer hitch or anything. It usually installs onto the deck lid of your trunk. One of the nice features about this bicycle rack is it can adjust to virtually any shape of car or SUV. This is where you make your adjustments, depending on the type of vehicle you have. You simply just unscrew this, and you have one on each side. It is basically just like a little bolt with a handle on the end. And you can take this and adjust the bicycle rack to whatever shape you need. Again, the rack comes with instructions on how to adjust it for your particular model. On ours we will use number 6. And also for storage, the arms will actually rotate and fold out of the way, too. And that is easily done by pushing in two buttons. And there will be a button here and there is one on the opposite side. Just squeeze them together, and you can see they rotate out of the way. more

Today we are going to show you part number TH7022 from Thule, the large Go Box, their multipurpose carrier. What we are going to do is show you how all the gear and sporting equipment can actually fit easily in the bag and be quite organized. This is how the bag comes in its stored position nice and flat so it does not take up too much room when you are not using it. And when you are ready to use it and fill it up, just undo the latches on the side do this part on both sides, just like that. Then just pull it open and you take these two bottom flaps here and you just push them straight to the bottom. And basically the bag is set and ready to go. And also, on the very bottom it has this nice, waterproof tarpaulin bottom, too, and these little grips, too, to help keep it from sliding around on the carpet. Next we are going to do the install of the wiring for our 2007 Hybrid Escape. We are going to utilize part number 118187, it is the Modulite Trailer Light Power Module. The reason for why we are using a power converter, basically, is the electronics in the vehicle are pretty sensitive. In fact, there is only just enough power to run lights in the vehicle. And basically, what this module does is it attaches to the harness and the green wire will end up being spliced to the right hand side. And this wire assembly here will be spliced on the driver side. And this black wire right here will be ran up front to the battery. The reason for the battery is is that basically this box, what it will do is copy the signal coming off of the vehicle and then send it to your trailer using the battery power. more

Today we are going to install part number 13465 from Curt on a 2007 Dodge Charger RT. The first thing we need to do is lower the exhaust. We have got two points we need to lower: one here, and one in the back. Now, we can simply unbolt those from the frame and it will come down. And we will do that on both sides. And also, for added safety, and to keep the stress down on the exhaust, we added this safety strap here. And one other point we need to disconnect will be right here, that is going to be right in front of the converter here. And basically we are going to just take this off and let the exhaust fall down as much as possible, limited by the strap, of course. And that will give us plenty of working room. Now we will take down this side of the exhaust. All right, and now we will do the passengers side. more

Today we are going to show you part number 59100 from Rola. This is the Rola Platypus Expandable Rooftop Bag. I will cover a couple of features of this cargo bag, which is really nice. First off, it is expandable from 10 cubic feet to 15 cubic feet by simply unzipping the zipper on the very bottom of the bag. Today we are going to install part number 87486 from Hidden Hitch on our 2008 Nissan Murano. This also applies to part number 75647 from Draw-Tite. The first step we need to do is go ahead and remove this tie-down bracket. We will take this off and it will stay off completely. Next we have to lower the exhaust top away. And there are three rubber hangers that we have to remove. There is one here, right behind the bumper here, and there is one on the other side of this bracket tube. These two, and then on the passengers side. And on the passengers side there is one that needs to be removed also. All right, we spray down this hanger right here, and that makes it a little bit easier to push off the exhaust system. Now we move over to the passengers side. Right, now that will give us a little more working room to install the hitch. more

Today we are going to install part number 60846 from Hidden Hitch on our Mazda 6, 2006 model year. On some models, two holes have to be drilled out, basically in this general area here and right here. There is a bolt and plate that gets installed right there. Some models will have the hole pre-existing, but in this one we will have to drill them out. Our next step is to go ahead and lower the exhaust to a level where we can do our install. There are three rubber hangers to be removed: this one right here, one back in the center and then one on the passengers side also. We also put in this temporary strap here so when we lower the exhaust we have something to control it as it comes down and we can actually support it at a specified height. more

Today we have part number TH630 from Thule. This is the Thule Ranger 90 Rooftop Cargo Carrier. And this is a really nice, unique cargo carrier. And the difference is it is kind of a cross between a soft cargo carrier and a rigid one. And we will show you the differences between the two. As a conventional soft-cover bag, basically the bag will sit here in between the rails here and sit on the roof. Probably not too much damage will happen, but over a long period you could have rock or dirt or dust that get in there and kind of rubbing your paint job. Where this has a rigid base on the bottom so it stays off your car and on your load bars, which is really nice. The sides are rigid also, but the rest of it is going to be just like a conventional soft carrier that you are used to using. This cargo bag mounts to virtually any type of roof rack like the Thule we have here or a factory roof rack. It has a simple U-bolt system. However, unlike most U-bolt systems where you have kind of like a plate on top and two thumb wheels or nuts that you have to screw down it is kind of like a pain and is kind of time consuming this has a totally different system of how it attaches to the cargo carrier. more

Today we are going to show you part number TH846 from Thule. This is the Quest Cargo Bag. This cargo bag mounts to the top of any aftermarket roof rack or factory roof rack installed on the vehicle. The roof racks do have to have the crossbars that go left to right for this bag to work. It carries up to a 13-foot cubic capacity, so you can stuff all your gear in there with no problem. As you can see here, we have it on our vehicle now. We will go ahead and show you a close-up of how it gets attached to your vehicle. more

This is part number TH856 from Thule, the Thule Nomad Roof Mounted Cargo Bag. Some quick features about this bag: it has durable nylon construction that will withstand travel over rugged terrain. It has taped seam construction that provides solid water resistance. It also has four straps that will tighten over the bag once it is stowed away and it is mounted to the roof rack. And this bag will mount to existing luggage racks. It includes four tie-downs that can be attached at eight different points on the bag. more

Today we are going to install part number 118336 from Tow Ready, and we are going to install this on a 1999 Honda CRV. To begin our install we actually have to get behind the speaker area. That is where the plug is actually attached at. We will just go ahead and pry this off, and then there are three screws that we have to undo to get behind the speaker. Be careful that you do not poke a hole in the speaker. And there is the plug right there, taped to the speaker wires. We will leave that sit there for now. And actually, if you want, you can actually take the speaker off - it might be a little easier to work with. What we do next is go ahead and pull back our carpeting, pull out this hatch, and then we are going to take this little plastic screw out to get back underneath here. All right, next we are going to route our cable from inside here down here. And it is all sheet metal behind here. So really we are going to take this panel loose and pull it away from it and run the cable between the metal and the plastic. And that means taking off this, this threshold, and pulling this back out so we can get some working room. First, we will take off this tie-down bracket - give us some working room there. And you can see we have got to take this thing off to get some more working room. So that means we have got to clean off this area here to get underneath here to take out our threshold. more

This is part number TH918 from Thule. This is the T2 Bike Add-on Bike Carrier. It is an add-on for a T2 Bicycle Rack which allows you to convert it from a two-bicycle rack up to a four-bike rack. It requires minimal assembly, just like the original rack does, the T2. Just tighten down the clamps that hold the crossbar and install the wheel mounts, and that is all it takes. The carrier does bolt onto the end of your existing T2 Bicycle Rack, and we will go ahead and do that and show you how it looks. more

Today we are going to show you part number 63120. This is the two-bike, hitch-mounted, folding rack with frame-mount cradles for 1-1/4 inch hitch. This is from Tow-Ready. This rack carries up to two bikes and works with many alternative and larger tube-frame bikes. However, womens bikes may require an adapter. It has heavy-duty, Velcro, straps which secure the bikes to the carrier, and a powder coated finish to resist corrosion and rust. It has rubberized pads to protect the finish on the bikes as you load them on. And the bike rack tilts forward to allow access to the rear of the vehicle. And also, the shank rises for better ground clearance. It fits 1-1/4 inch hitches only, and the maximum weight on the rack cannot exceed 66 pounds. more

I gotta admit, I was skeptable about ordering from e-trailer. The prices I was getting locally was way to high. I received my hitch for my 07 SUV and it fit like a glove.
