Review of the GearDeck 17 Enclosed Cargo Carrier
Today we will be showing you part number 5800800. This is the GearDeck 17 cargo carrier for 2 inch receiver hitches. The name says it all, as it carries up to 17 cubic feet of cargo, which can range from luggage to sports equipment to commercial trade equipment. The cargo carrier has easy access with rubber latches on either side. It also has a removable lid. Despite its lightweight, it is strong and durable with a weight capacity of 300 pounds. This carrier has 2 red reflectors on the front, although there is an optional light kit that can be purchased, which is part number 5800900. Of course, one of the main features is the twin telescoping tubes which enable the carrier to slide out to give more clearance to the back of your SUV or pickup.
Now we will show you how the carrier slides out and some of the other features. To begin with, you pull the clip out and unscrew this bolt which allows the carrier to be pulled out. You then simply pull the carrier towards you until you feel it stop. The telescoping clearance is about 34 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the carrier. Focusing on its backside, you can see the cable here which is attached to both the hitch and the carrier. This insures the carrier will not come all the way off the twin telescoping tubes. While we are back here, you can also see that it comes with an anti-sway bolt to ensure stability down the road. Focusing on the front, we will show you how to open the GearDeck. You simply pull the rubber handles up and over the notch here and lift on the lid. On the inside, you can see how spacious it is, as well as these four hooks that lay on the base of it. These provide tie-down points, which provide more security for your cargo when it moves on down the road and prevents it from sliding around inside the carrier and possibly breaking something of value. And there you have it for part number 5800800, the GearDeck 17 cargo carrier from Lets Go Areo (and Highland).
