This is a folding basket adapter for two inch trailer hitch mounted cargo carriers. Specifically this will fit cargo carrier model 52018. As you can see we have the parts laid out here, we will install them on a cargo carrier and show you how it goes. But we will just cover the main points of it. Basically you see this bushing right here, what is going to happen is it is going to actually fit inside the tube of the cargo carrier itself, inside like this, so you will not see it. What happens is, as a bushing it reduces it down for this bolt, so when it sits inside down here, it eliminates all the slop. This pin here is just for when you fold it up or have it down, it is just a pin that keeps it in place, that is all it does. It has two positions: one for up and one for down position. We have a cargo carrier here, we will go ahead and install the adapter bar here, pretty simple. Again you want to put your bushing in first, and that stays there and then you slide your adapter bar over. Then you install the bolt and the washer on each side.
We are just going to leave that loose for now. Then we will put our safety pin in, and then we will go ahead and tighten down this nut and bolt, and we will be set. When you tighten these down, you want to take care, you just want to get the slack out. You do not want to torque it down too tight where you cannot rotate it. We have it installed in our upright position. Like I said, it is really nice to install into your hitch, and if you are going to pick something up you can leave it up as you go down the road. When you are ready to pick up the item you are going to transport, go ahead and pull the pin, lower it, then re-install your pin and your cargo carrier is ready for service. Once the unit is installed and it folded up how much room between carrier and suv number. I have a range rover evoque and hitch is slight inside of number. What would appx length from bolt hole in receiver and where it folds ??

The distance between the vehicle bumper and the carrier will vary from vehicle to vehicle. We have not tested this carrier on an Evoque. Part # 52018F, the folding carrier from Surco, measures 5 inches from the hitch pin hole to the carrier when folded up. So you can take a yard stick and set it against the bumper, completely straight up and down, and then measure from your hitch pin hole to the yard stick. If that measurement is less than 5 inches, the carrier should fit. Here's a link link to the folding carrier.

That adapter should only be used with the SURCO 52015 carrier. The adapter will not reduce the carrier capacity, it will remain 500 pounds or the tongue weight capacity of your hitch/vehicle, which ever is less. Remember the weight of the carrier itself, ~60 pounds, does count against the tongue weight capacity of the hitch/vehicle.

The closest part of the carrier will sit 5 inches away from the hitch pin hole when folded up. The adapter turns a 52018 flat carrier into a 52018F folding carrier. To make sure it will fit your vehicle, take a yard stick and stand vertical against that part of your vehicle that sticks out the furthest. Measure from that yard stick to the pin hole on the hitch. As long as that measurement is under 5 inches, the 52018F carrier will work.
