Review of a CIPA Universal Towing Mirror
This easily installed fender-mount towing mirror is perfect for a multi-vehicle owner with its easily adjustable arms and no tool installation. It can easily be attached and detach according to the need of the vehicle. The mirror itself measures 7-1/8 x 5-3/4 inches. This mirror does require some assembly but its not too bad. It consists of six components total and once you get it together it is pretty easy to adjust and put on your vehicle. We will cover some of the finer points of installing it and show you how it mounts up and where it is supposed to be. As you can see here we actually have the mirror assembly spread out as far as possible. We will start off with that then we will tighten up as we need to, to accommodate the vehicle.
We will show you a couple of the finer points here really fast, what is nice about these fender mounts here is they sit over the top of the fender and they are rubber coated so they want mar the finish. Also the angle of it matches the hood as it goes into it. Also some vehicles, I believe Chevy pickup trucks, may have these flipped over which is what makes the design so universal. The hook on the bottom here is also coated in rubber and this part is what grabs below the bottom edge of the fender. Make sure your vehicle has a metal fender and beware the plastic fenders around the edge. You might have to do a trial fit or something like that but generally when you have this connected to the steel body panel it will ride the best and not come loose. First we will start off, we will use this bottom edge here to catch beneath the bottom edge of the fender and hook it up like so. The top part will go onto the hood line, where it meets the fender. Now give it a good pull and keep it as level as possible and as far out as possible. And then just hold this turnbuckle in place and take your knob on top and take it down. Now take your wing nut here and we will just use this as a locknut so it does not vibrate loose.
Obviously we only did the top half here you can also spin this down in case you need a narrower stance to accommodate different vehicles. Give it a little bit of a tug to make sure it will not go anywhere, you might need a little bit more and we are set to go. Also the mirror is movable in two different positions, obvious the mirror itself can move left and right or up and down. Also you can do it this way and the arm that holds it up is rotatable too. You undo the knob and put it out anywhere as you see fit. Once make sure you have the mirror the way you want it on the fender, you might have to make adjustments, we will go ahead and shut our hood and it will be ready to go. As you can see the hooks do not interfere with the hood or anything. This is a relatively clean installation on your vehicle. It would be great for any temporary situation that you need to get some extra vision behind you. This unit is constructed of steel with chrome plating and rubber ends to keep it from messing up a paint job on the edges of your vehicle.
