Today we are going to show you part number Y02618 from Yakima. This is Yakimas SpareJoe tire-mounted, two-bike carrier. This rack obviously will mount onto the spare tire on the back of most SUVs. It does fit a variety of tires. And it comes boxed in a formation just like this right here, all folded up. And this does unfold to sit across the tire. This is the actual top of it, and your tire would be inside of here.
And the way the arms hold the bike that this will actually be rotated out and locked into position to hold the bikes. And also, as you can see here, the arm actually has an offset. That allows this spare tire carrier to be mounted on spare tires that are off to one side of the vehicle or the other. And to do that, what you have to do is take apart the carrier at this point right here. What holds everything in position once you tighten it down is these gears right here. Basically what happens is you will tighten up this knob right here, and then you get as snug as you can. And then you just go ahead and take this red lever and that actually locks it into place. We will take this one side apart, just to give you an idea of what it takes to flip it over from one side to the other. The easiest way is just go ahead and unscrew this cap all the way off, and then you simply just unthread the whole skewer going through there. Once you have it unthreaded all the way, you can go ahead and just pull it apart and then take out the center arm so you can get the arm into the position you need. When you take it apart, you will see that there are two positions for the bolt to go through to hold it in place. Once you get it decided which way you want to orient the bars, then you can just go ahead and reverse the procedure and bolt everything back together.
Let us go ahead and install this on a typical vehicle here. Just strap it over your spare tire, and run your back strap down behind the spare tire and out the bottom. The next thing you want to do is take your second strap that wraps around the bottom of the tire and go ahead and buckle it down. And just leave it snug so you can still move it and adjust it as you want to. And then go back to your bottom strap here and buckle it into place. And then you go back to your side strap and go ahead and get it as tight as you can. And once you have it tightened on the spare tire, then you can adjust the arms as needed for your bicycles. Raise the arm to the desired position, pointing up just a little bit. And then just tighten down the knob and lock it into place. And when the teeth just start to meet together, then you can go ahead and lock it down with the red lever. Let us go ahead and take a moment to point out the cradles here. They are made out of rubber-like material, and the bikes are held down with Velcro straps. There is a nice, wire loop to hold everything into place, and the bikes sit in there just like so. And it also has grooves built into the cradle itself for your cables to run into so they do not run into the paint job on your bicycle. Let us go ahead and stick a bike on there and show you how it looks. And there you have it for part number Y02618 from Yakima, the SpareJoe tire-mounted, two-bike carrier.
