Review of a Yakima CopperHead Roof Mounted Bike Rack

Today we are going to show you part number Y02064 from Yakima. This is their CopperHead Bicycle Rack. What this rack does is, it is designed to fit on your aftermarket roof-rack bars. This is a very simple, easy-to-use device. Basically, what it does is it clamps onto the front bar of your vehicle, and there is a simple clamp on the back that ties the other half down. Now we will go ahead and install this on a typical application and give you a better idea of how it works. Let us go ahead and put our simple bike rack on our car.

First off, you want to start off just taking the clip here, and it snaps around the bar. And just leave it like that. Then we will go ahead and install our bicycle rack. Line up the front half where it falls into place right there. And then your other carriage bolt will just go right through that clamp. And then go ahead and put your panel nut on the bottom clamp in the back. All right, now we will go to the front half and install our bottom clamp. We left our screws in on the top half, so we will just put this underneath of it, line up our screws, and just run our screws in. OK, we just set the bar on there snug. Now we will just take a few seconds to make sure you get it in proper alignment with the car, and then tighten down all the screws. All right, and with that our bicycle rack is installed.

Now all we have got to do is undo the clamp and install the front skewer for the forks of the bicycle. Put on our cover plate, and then run our skewer inside. And then put our nut on the other side. OK, with the front wheel off the bike we will go ahead and install our bicycle. Lift the rear wheel into the track. And then your forks go up here. Snug up the nut on the outside here, and then clamp it in place with the lever. Then go back to your back strap and adjust it into place, and then strap it down. Pull it through, and then you can actually ratchet it. And then your bike is secure and ready to go down the road.
