Thule Ranger 90 Soft Sided Roof Top Cargo Carrier - Rigid Bottom - Roll Up Design - 12 cubic feet
TH630
$251.95Today we have part number TH630 from Thule. This is the Thule Ranger 90 Rooftop Cargo Carrier. And this is a really nice, unique cargo carrier. And the difference is it is kind of a cross between a soft cargo carrier and a rigid one. And we will show you the differences between the two. As a conventional soft-cover bag, basically the bag will sit here in between the rails here and sit on the roof. Probably not too much damage will happen, but over a long period you could have rock or dirt or dust that get in there and kind of rubbing your paint job. Where this has a rigid base on the bottom so it stays off your car and on your load bars, which is really nice. The sides are rigid also, but the rest of it is going to be just like a conventional soft carrier that you are used to using. This cargo bag mounts to virtually any type of roof rack like the Thule we have here or a factory roof rack. It has a simple U-bolt system. However, unlike most U-bolt systems where you have kind of like a plate on top and two thumb wheels or nuts that you have to screw down it is kind of like a pain and is kind of time consuming this has a totally different system of how it attaches to the cargo carrier.
We will go ahead and unzip the bag and show you how it works. As we open it up, we will show you a couple of the other features about it. First off, instead of the zipper holding everything together, you have these extra tie-downs that pull everything tight. And there is a simple snap release. You have got four of them: two in the front and two in the rear. And also, you can see we only have the bag half-loaded, and basically, as you can see when we pull up the fabric, we have tons of extra room inside there. And the zipper starts on the other side and comes back all the way around this way. Also, with the zipper here, we are starting off here, you can see it actually comes with a set of keys, and on the side here there is actually a little lock that you can actually lock the two ends of the zipper together. It gives you a little bit of added security there. And you can see the actual loops for the lock itself will go right here. And a you can see as we unzip the bag here, it has a nice, generous flap that helps keep out any extra dirt and water or whatnot from getting inside the bag.
And as we were talking about before, the latching system on here is pretty neat. Basically, it is just a quarter-turn and it locks onto the U-bolts themselves. We will take one apart here and show you. There is a little safety latch right here. Give it a little turn, grab the U-bolt on the bottom, and just pull up the top, and it comes right apart. Now, that is for taking it apart. To install it, obviously is going to be the exact opposite. Put the U-bolt in first. Make sure that this assembly is completely open. Just line up the holes and just push it into place. And push it as tight as you can and then simply snap it back together. And then lock it. And there you have it for part number TH630, the Ranger Rooftop Cargo Carrier from Thule.
